Looking for something sweet post-lunch or on the prowl for dessert spots to linger over an indulgent treat with your partner or your girlfriends? There are no shortage of places to hit up on our little red dot.
But new dessert places are always welcomed in our book, and these are the latest entrants in the scene to get frosty treats and luscious pastries that hit the spot.
Here’s another cute treat to add to your Instagram feed – googly-eyed shave ice cream from Roji Monster Ice Cream. Originally from Taiwan and with outlets worldwide including Korea, China, Canada, the US and Malaysia, it’s recently arrived on our shores with a quaint minimalist-style shop at Tanjong Pagar.
You’ll get to choose from four shaved ice cream flavours – Uji Matcha, Black Sesame, Milk, and Belgian Chocolate, which are priced from $12.90 – then add two toppings of your choice from a selection of 23 toppings such as hojicha jelly, taro balls and rice dumplings with red bean. Or if you’re looking for something a little more substantial, go for the Monster Waffle ($10.90), which comes in the shape of the Roji mascot.
Bonus, it opens till late (2pm – 11pm from Sun – Thurs, and 3pm-12am on Fri and Sat) so you can satisy your late-night sweet tooth.
Roji Monster Ice Cream is at 52 Tanjong Pagar Road.
Now that we can’t make our way across the causeway to cafe hop in JB, popular Malaysian ice cream shop Inside Scoop has come to us instead.
You’ll find artisan ice creams here, which are free of preservatives, artificial colouring and flavouring, as well as buttermilk and charcoal waffles that are made fresh each day. Ice cream flavours include Matcha, Earl Grey, Peanut Buttercup and the new Marbled Black Sesame.
The store itself is a charming space in cheery pastel tones and neon lights that create a lovely ambience to chill out. And there’s even a glider swing for that gram-worthy photo op, too.
Inside Scoop is at 79 North Bridge Road, Singapore 198747. Closed on Tuesdays.
Sweet treats and ultra-cute furbabies? Yes please!
Dog lovers will want to make your way to Cookie & Cuddle, a new dog cuddling cafe . On the menu, you’ll find the adorable Doggyyaki, a Japanese-style baked pancake with a variety of sweet and savoury fillings, that’s pressed in the shape of a French bulldog. You can also order this with a scoop of ice cream at $4. Other items on its ever-changing menu include decadent brownies, a banana loaf, cookies and pastries that are baked fresh, as well as coffee, tea and chocolate drinks.
But the highlights here, of course, are really the resident Chi-Poo (Chihuahua-Poodle mix) sisters, Cookie, Cuddle, and Kiki. You’ll get to pet the trio (in a ‘cuddle corner’), but you’ll want to contact the shop to see if they’re in before you make a trip.
Cookie & Cuddle is at 432 Race Course Road. Closed on Mondays.
By the team behind Brine Restaurant, Hay Gelato also doubles as an R&D kitchen for the offerings at Brine.
If you have a taste for interesting flavours, the store serves just that, with flavours like the Signature Smoked Hay (made by smoking hay and infusing it with the gelato), Yuzu Ginger, Balsamic Strawberry, and Coconut Coffee, from $4.20 a scoop.
You can also opt to have your ice cream served atop freshly griddled waffles. The intimate space, decked in pastel hues and cement walls, can seat 18 people (indoors and outdoors), but it’s likely you’ll have to order yours to go, judging from the crowds that flock there.
Hay Gelato is at 136 Bedok North Ave 3, #01-148, Singapore 460136. Closed on Mondays.
