So you think salads are boring? The humble bowl of goodness has come a long way here on sunny Singapore, baby. It’s no longer a perfunctory scattering of limp veggies with a smattering of thinly sliced cheese or skinny strips of dry meat. Salads are actually filling meals in and of themselves and, with countless permutations and ingredients to toss into the mix, you’ll certainly be spoilt for choice. Click through for a couple of yummy salad bars worth a visit or three this week, and bon appetit.

Pimp My Salad

How could you not want to eat at a place with such a memorable moniker? You can create your salad dish any way you like here – you’re the one pimpin’ after all, so feel free to go wild. There are some pretty unique salad ingredients here such as garam masala chickpeas, roasted carrots with cumin and slow-roasted lamb shoulder. If you’re really hungry – or just have a big appetite – ask the staff to supersize your meat and you’ll definitely leave with a sated stomach and contented smile on your face.

The people behind Grain Traders believe in serving hearty comfort food for the everyday worker. You’ll certainly be able to find solace in the salads here: Signature bowls include Rooster’s Crow (with chicken, of course), The Beebop (with braised pork shoulder) and Mr. Pirom (with tuna and wild mushroom). You can also Build Your Own Bowl ($16 nett) composed of an option each of a grain, protein and a hot veg; plus two  cold veggies, one sauce and one topping. We suggest going for The Square Meal, which is a steal at just $18, and you’ll get one bowl, one drink and one snack.
