This bakery calls itself “The home of Gluten-free” in Singapore so you can find everything from gluten-free breads, cakes and buns to muffins, cereal, and vegan snacks and jams.

One founder is a chef, the other is a nutrition expert and health coach. As young mums, Anne and Susan wanted to find healthier baked goods their young children would enjoy eating. So they rolled up their sleeves and got baking!

Now The Whole Kitchen has two bakery cafes, so you can try before you buy: one cafe is in Katong on the East Coast, while the newest branch is the CBD. You can also find their gluten-free bakes in great cafes all over Singapore, including Common Man Coffee Roasters, Wild Honey and Atlas Bar.

The Whole Kitchen uses natural ingredients and keeps sugar levels low. But all the cakes and breads taste delicious. The Gluten-free 7 Seed Country Loaf is  made from a mix of gluten free flours, featuring brown rice, buckwheat, fibre-rich sunflower, chia and flaxseeds. $120.95 for 700 grams. Gluten free Mini Lemon and Coconut Muffins are $14.95 for six muffins.

The Festive Tea Time Set is a knockout, with delicious gluten free Orange Almond Cake (600g), Mini Vegan Brownies (6pcs), Traditional Almond Cookies Gift Jar (250g), Vegan Black Sesame Cookies Gift Jar (280g).

The Vegan Lemon-Raspberry Cake Frozen Loaf  (see above) is a winner – it’s made from unsweetened applesauce, almonds, unrefined cane sugar, non-GMO cornmeal, olive oil, raspberries, lemon zest, gluten-free baking powder, vanilla extract and pink Himalayan salt. $42 for a cake serving 8-16 slices. The cake is delivered frozen, to encourage less food waste.

The staffing policy is equally wholesome. Many staff are recruited from social change organizations such as MINDS and Daughters of Tomorrow, and benefit from on-the-job skills training.

ROA Gluten-Free Cakes
Tiann’s

This bakery and cosy cafe in Tiong Bahru makes gluten-free treats that are also free from refined sugar.  The back story is that the sweet-tooth founders struggled with weight and health issues, and decided to cut back on sugary foods. They adapted their favourite bakes to be less sweet, and more nutritious.

So all Tiann’s bakes are made on-site. They’re gluten-free, and made with no refined sugar. The bakes have a delightfully Singapore flavour – the real Good Gluten-Free Pandan Chiffon Cake is made with almond meal, and contains no eggs, less sugar (and no refined sugar). It’s also flavoured with organic pandan leaves. It’s $83. You can also order customised gluten-free birthday cakes.

Island wide delivery is Tuesday to Sunday, and as early as 9am. Deliveries are a flat rate of $20, with no minimum order.

Locaba Healthy Baked Goods
image

Austrian-born Markus Berndt founded this online-only brand after he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. He loved the cakes and pastries of his native Vienna, and decided to come up with alternatives that are low-carb, vegan, gluten-free and diabetic-friendly.

Locaba cakes use no refined sugar, honey or sucrose. Instead the sweetness comes from his own calorie-free sweetener, developed from sugar beets. The Vegan Hazelnut Chocolate & BlackBerry Cake is $72 – $148, depending on size. The 6 Slice Vegan Cake Sampler is a tasting box of six different flavours of gluten free cakes, at $62.

Cakes are baked fresh to order, so you must order online, at least one day in advance.

SuperPop (The GoodFats Kitchen)
image

SuperPop and The GoodFats Kitchen sounds like a funky 70s rock band – but it’s actually  very different kind of eating place.  The GoodFats Kitchen is a modern cafe with a pat-friendly outside eating area.  Everything on the menu is gluten-free, sugar-free and organic, with no GMO ingredients, artificial flavourings or colours.

Now you can get the whole menu delivered, thanks to the baking and kitchen arm of the cafe – which is called SuperPop. The Gluten Free Keto Pizzas are especially famous, with toppings like organic chicken and garlic mushrooms. Prices range from #212 to $23 for a pizza.

But if you want something sweet, you can also find  gluten free Cookie Kookies with unusual flavours like Kaya Lemongrass Kookies, or the classic Toasted Almond Butter Keto Kookies, $12.90 for a pack of three.

A quirky touch is that chefs at SuperPop uses machines that give off special 432 Hz frequency. Apparently this, “ magic vibration boosts positive energy and healing effects to make the food healthier.” You may roll your eyes at this, or nod enthusiastically, but it shows they are committed to taking the road less travelled.

At the moment, it’s curbside pickup only at The GoodFats Kitchen, no dine in. Get island wide delivery by ordering online at SuperPop website.

The Clean Addicts

Whole food fudge cakes, whole mochi cakes and muffins are the draw in this online-only bakery.

Andrea Lee decided to eat more healthily after her mother had to endure heart surgery for clogged arteries. Her family enjoy sweets, so Andrea started baking more wholesome desserts.

Most of the cakes here are Vegan and Gluten-free, like the Matcha And Dark Chocolate Fudge Cake,  a not-too-sweet cake that’s made with Japanese green tea matcha powder, dates, rolled oats and seeds, so it’s full of protein, fiber and powerful antioxidants.

It’s low in sugar anyway, but you can order an even more Diabetic-Friendly Option made with Sugar-free Maltitol Chocolate. Prices start at $86 for a six inch round cake suitable for 10 people.

Online orders only at The Clean Addicts
