Where to get the best black forest cakes in Singapore

First originated in Germany, this boozy sweet treat has become one of the most beloved cakes in Singapore

Originated in Germany, Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte or Black Forest cherry torte is popular all over the globe. Traditionally, kirschwasser, a clear brandy made from the distillation of sour morello cherries, is added to the cake. German law requires that any dessert labelled Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte must contain kirschwasser that’s distilled in the Black Forest.

A classic version of the Black Forest gateau typically comprises multiple layers of chocolate sponge cake layered with whipped cream and foiled by cherry filling. It is then festooned with soft whipped cream, chocolate shavings and juicy kirsch-soaked cherries on top.

Here are some places in Singapore where you can sink your teeth into the finest black forest cakes.
