Nothing spells American than a backyard bbq, but these restaurants miles away from the States (and very near us), comes pretty darn close.
If you’re looking for an all-American diner experience, then Smokey’s BBQ is the place to go. It’s not just the generous portions that make this smokehouse a must-try, Smokey’s also offers a great pick of cocktails and beers in a laidback, fuss-free environment.
Start with a bowl of Smoked Beef Chilli Nachos before moving on to the US Prime Beef Brisket, popular with diners for its tender juicy meat that falls right off the bone. If you’re heading out for midweek wings, Smokey’s does $1 Buffalo Wings all night long every Wednesday (order by the half dozen).
People come specially to be seen at this homey-meets-industrial looking diner for a few reasons: it’s located at the hip Telok Ayer, has rolled out a new Saturday brunch (that has a sweet & savoury banana bacon toast), and it still offers the most drool-worthy roasted meat dishes.
What’s worth the trip: the huge chargrilled Cote de Boeuf (bone in prime rib) and leg of lamb roasted whole on bone. Other highlights include the hipster-beloved chicken and waffle – it comes drizzled with whisky maple syrup – and lobster roll.
Imagine a meat resto gone modern, contemporary bar-bistro – that’s Dallas Restaurant & Bar. While there are three outlets at prime locations in SG – Marina Bay Sands, Suntec City and Boat Quay – it’s the one at the Quay that you should head to if you want a view of the Singapore River and the Central Business District’s skyscraper skyline,
For the food, it’s all an American (and so are the portions): Its Black Angus Ribeye Steak and the baby back ribs should satisfy the meat lovers, as will the Wagyu and lamb burgers. After you’re done dining on the second floor, check out the third level bar and balcony for the said view and drinks.
This so-called ambassador of Texas-style fare takes its role seriously. The resto stakes its claim as Asia’s first authentic Texas barbecue on their cooking process: High-quality meats, rubbed with a signature seasoning (the resto only lets on that salt and pepper is involved), and low and slow-smoked for 16 hours in their custom-built A.N.Bewley (a brand name which pitmasters as far as Okinawa, Japan, has even sourced for) smoker from Dallas.
True blue carnivores will have a feast with beef briskets, burnt ends and pulled chicken amongst a variety of other meats available here. Just try not to choke on its 700-gram dinosaur ribs that’s available only on weekends.
Meat Smith is doing right by, err, meats: Since the first outlet at Telok Ayer Street opened 2015, it expanded with another at Campbell Lane in Little India in December last year.
Bets are on the Southern Pride smokers from the States that make the beef and pork ribs so tender. At the new outlet, there’s also a spit rotisserie and tandoor (clay or metal oven from northern India and Pakistan) so you can get to taste its special fusion of India and American culinary cultures.
Or, better yet, head down to the first outlet for its 4th July party, where chef Andrew Baldus will be smoking a 20-kilogramme Kahlua Pig with Pineapple Fried Rice, wrapped in banana leaves, Hawaiian style. If you have to miss this, you can always drown your sorrows at its little bar called Rogue Trader, located at the side entrance of the Little India outlet where you can try Indian wines and lagers.
This trustworthy, family-friendly chain knows just how to do rustic Southern hospitality – it offers an all-you-can-eat weekend ribs buffet from 11 am – 4 pm from $40 per person; kids-eat-for-free deal on weekends and public holidays (one kid’s meal with each adult main meal ordered); and a whole day Happy hour promotion on Sunday and public holidays. The must-try here is the signature Sticky Bones spare ribs, that’s smoked over hickory wood and bastard with a sweet and tangy cider-infused BBQ sauce.
The restaurant doesn’t rest on its laurels either – it introduces innovative takes on traditional recipes as well. The bourbon-infused and candied bacon topped Smokey Bourbon Bacon Sticky Bones and the rich Candied Peach BBQ were seasonal items in the past couple of months, so it pays to keep your eyes on the ribs here!

Not only will you get to enjoy high-quality meats, but you’ll also get to experience a true smokehouse without leaving the country.

Dining at Camp Kilo Charcoal Club is like going for a backyard barbecue party of a badass old friend (who happens to cook, like, reaaally well).
Mingles around the open air seats while the whole hogs are roasted at the spit or drink up at the garden bar; even the desserts – from the S’mores cheesecake to toasted marshmellows – pay homage to the camp-themed eatery.
What’s a barbecue if you don’t have a hearty serving of tender beef brisket or a juicy pulled pork burger?
