After finishing fourth on the 2010 edition of Star Search, Romeo Tan has steadily worked his way to become one of the most recognisable male celebrities in Singapore. He has participated in many productions, ranging from Joys of Life (2012) and The Dream Makers II (2015) to Life Less Ordinary (2018) and Jungle Survivor (2020). He has also clinched five Star Awards Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes, a testament to his popularity.
In light of his recent win of the Bioskin Most Charismatic Artiste Award at the 2021 Star Awards, here are five things you might not know about Romeo Tan.
Because of the roles he plays and his real-life character, Romeo gives off an impression that he is always cheerful and jovial, and has a sunny disposition. But after growing out his beard and sporting wavy bangs signature of a melancholic man, Romeo has transformed into a manlier-looking figure.
This “dispirited” styling makes him look like he has weathered many life events and gained wisdom and knowledge that comes with age and experiences. He still looks masculine despite retaining his youthful looks. We’re looking forward to seeing how he will interpret this role!
We know and love Romeo for his acting prowess in front of the camera. But did you, Romeo is also adept behind the camera and is a photography enthusiast? He has an Instagram account (@romeophotologue) dedicated to recording his photographic works ranging from life to travel experiences. Romeo’s work is both fresh and simple, yet it shows off his creative take.
In recent news, Romeo has also picked up video filming and editing, and even produced a dance video for younger generations He Ying Ying and Herman Keh. Watch the above video to see the fruits of the trio’s labour.
If you follow Romeo closely, you’ll know that he often posts about spending time with his family and pets. Despite having his own apartment, busy work schedule and social life, Romeo still makes it a point to spend time with his family on special occasions. He also often brings his nephews and nieces out to play, making him definitely popular with the family elders as well.
His beloved dog Tigger, who is often called “My Princess”, is also showered with Romeo’s love and affection. Recently, Tigger has been afflicted with health issues and it is obvious from Romeo’s words that he is stressed and worried as a result.
Honestly, who can resist such a loving and caring man?
Though he doesn’t play the main male character for every production, Romeo is a versatile actor who has worked with many different actresses. Many of the familiar names he has acted alongside include younger generation Ye Jia Yun (All Around You) and He Ying Ying (Jungle Survivor), peers Felicia Chin (Life Less Ordinary) and Rebecca Lim (Jungle Survivor) as well as senior Xiang Yun (Old Soul). We reckon that you can’t ignore Romeo’s acting talent.
You often hear about how celebrities are two different people when they are on- and off-stage. Romeo, however, is known to carry the same energy and personality whether he is in front or behind the camera. This can be seen from his interactions with fans, colleagues and backstage staff. I’ve personally met Romeo in interviews and brand events. Through our interaction, I’ve found that although he is really tall (at 182cm), there isn’t any distance between us at all. We can see why his fan club, The Juliet Club, is so devoted and in love with Romeo!
