Jessica Simpson opens up about how she lost 45kg after six months

The mum-of-three revealed that she lost all the weight she gained after having her third child in just six months

Jessica Simpson has long spoken about her body battles, but now the mum-of-three’s in the best shape of her life after shedding 45kg following the birth of her daughter Birdie in 2019 March.

“I didn’t expect to gain so much weight,” she told People in an interview. “I thought I’d learned my lesson but apparently that’s just the way God made me: very hungry and pregnant.”

Flaunting her trim and toned body in a series of Instagram posts to celebrate her 40th birthday last year, Jessica proudly showed off the impressive payoff for her dedicated diet and exercise regimen.

“It’s not easy at all, but I am determined to feel good,” Jessica says.

Turning to celebrity personal trainer Harley Pasternak, who also helped her to famously fit into those Daisy Dukes years ago, Jessica aimed to fawn healthy habits taking her beyond her six-month goal.

“It had to be more than just getting back from her baby weight,” Pasternak told E! News of the weight loss plan that he and Jessica’s doctor set out of the star. “That’s why we are not a big fan of doing any extreme diet or radical form of exercise.”

1. Walk

“I’ve been doing a lot of walking – getting my steps in not only burns calories but it also helps me clear my head and get focused,” she says.

Pasternak set a daily goal of 14,000 steps a day to get Jessica moving, with the star scheduling her workouts into her daily routine.

“She could do it by going for walks with her family, walking on the treadmill, watching TV, just moving her body in a non-intense way,” he says. “In Italy, people do a passeggiata, whereafter dinner every family goes out for a walk in the neighbourhood. Jessica has used that as quality time with her family or friends, instead of social plans that involve sitting. If she wants to watch something or make a phone call, she can go on the treadmill. just about hitting that step goal.

2. Train & Diet

While reaching her steps remained the most important aspect of her weight loss program, Pasternak also introduced the star to 45-minute circuit training sessions a few times a week. “We had her doing three to four days a week of resistance exercise, a circuit of different body parts per day,” he says. “We’d pick different body parts each of the three or four workouts a week.”

Jessica also followed Pasternak’s Body Reset Diet, making sure she ate three meals a day that were high in lean protein, along with snacks such as parmesan green beans and a handful of almonds.

“I discovered I really like cauliflower,” Jessica says. “Who knew that it could a substitute of almost anything!”

But, while Pasternak says that giving up alcohol was also a key to Jessica’s success, he also adamant that the star not deprive herself of a treat or two either.

“If she has a birthday party one night and a date night another night, she’s going to indulge both those nights, but that’s it. It’s about balancing in a way that doesn’t make it painful or too much of a departure from your life before that,” Pasternak says.

3. Seven Hours Of Sleep

And that included in the bedroom, too. Pasternak says he drilled down on the importance of sleep, advising the fashion designer, author and businesswoman to get at least seven hours a night.

“So many people undervalue the importance of sleep in weight loss and weight management,” he says. “You don’t lose weight doing bleep curls and lunges. [It’s by] changing your diet, hitting your step goal, working on your sleep.”

And for Jess, who boasted of being able to fit into her 14-year-old favourite jeans for her 40th, she’s never felt better.

“Now I feel like I [am] better than I’ve ever been and stronger than I’ve ever been,” she wrote in memoir Open Book. “And I celebrate myself and I believe in myself again.”
