Netflix’s ‘Emily In Paris’ renewed for season 3 and 4

Plus, everything we know so far about season 3

January 13, 2022
Emily In Paris

You either love it or hate it, but Netflix’s hit comedy series Emily In Paris is set to air for another two seasons.

Starring Lily Collins, the romance-comedy is centred around young Chicago native Emily Cooper, whose job as a marketing executive takes her to the romantic French capital of Paris, where she works at boutique French luxury firm Savoir.

There, her American ways and multiple faux pas rub the French the wrong way, and in particular, her Savoir boss Sylvie Grateau, played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu. She thankfully bumps into her soon-to-be BFF Mindy Chen (Ashley Park), who is an au pair for two children and has been in the city for a year, to help familiarise her with the city. On the other hands, she also stumbles into a love triangle with her neighbour Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and her first real French friend Camille (Camille Razat).

Season two, which premiered in December last year, continues with Emily’s shenanigans in Paris.

She’s better at navigating the city but still struggling with the idiosyncrasies of the French. And after the drama with Gabriel and Camille, Emily is determined to focus on her work — which is getting more complicated by the day. In French class, she meets fellow expat and London-born banker Alfie (who later becomes her boyfriend) who both infuriates and intrigues her.

(Spoiler alert)

In the season two finale, Emily is handed an offer to join Sylvie at her new marketing firm. At the same time, she’s facing a dilemma in her own personal life — her boyfriend Alfie has decided to go back to London but wants to give a long-distance relationship a whirl.

But Emily is just about to follow her heart and confess her love for Gabriel — that’s until Gabriel’s ex-girlfriend Camille reveals that they’ve reconciled and are moving in together. With that, Emily called up Sylvie to tell her she had made her choice.

Fans left hanging about Emily’s choice between a possible promotion at Savior’s offices in Chicago or a spot at Sylvie’s brand-new agency in Paris will have to wait till season three. But according to series creator Darren Star in an interview with Elle, he says, “I have a very strong idea (of what Emily chooses), and I think the thing is, there’s no right choice. There’s no choice that’s gonna make everything better and please everybody.”

He adds, “And I think Emily also is…a bit of a people pleaser, and she’s gonna make a decision that’s gonna make some people unhappy. And she’s gonna have to deal with that also next season.”

So… who will Emily wind up with?

“She does have very strong feelings for Gabriel,” Star lets on. “That’s a question she’s going to have to confront is, how can she manage her relationship issues with her work issues, both of which, by the end of season two, is hanging in the balance.”

And of her romance with Alfie, he says, “I love Alfie, personally. I wouldn’t write Alfie off, and I don’t think Emily should, either. London’s not far from Paris.”

Season one and two of ‘Emily in Paris’ are now on Netflix.
