The National Day parade (NDP) may have been postponed to August 21, but it doesn’t matter. Our celebratory mood is still going strong, and we can’t wait to do all these creative NDP-themed activities.
And it seems like we’re not alone. From Jaime Teo to Nurul Aini, our local celebs are equally psyched about the occasion. Here are the National Day-themed things they have done to celebrate our nation’s 56th year of independence.
Fitness enthusiast Jaime Teo cycled for five hours, covering a total distance of 44.25km, and burned a whopping 1,770kcal to achieve the above Strava art. In case you haven’t heard, Strava art maps out your workout — anything from walking to swimming — into a GPS artwork. In true National Day spirit, Jaime plotted her cycling path to look like our very own Merlion.
Inspired by Jaime, fellow Fly Entertainment artiste Benjamin Heng also hopped onto his bicycle and went on a Merlion head-inspired cycling course. Now we’re inspired to do the same!
If you’re planning to pack your favourite local hawker food for a stay-home National Day feast, heed Munah Bagharib’s advice to bring your own bags, bottles and containers. Doing our part for the environment while celebrating NDP? Sure, count us in!
Nurul Aini spent some quality time with her little ones in the kitchen, making their own pizza that is inspired by our national flag. It’s a pretty good and fun idea to consider for a long weekend.
This year’s National Day celebrations include a National Day Challenge that involves dancing to the NDP theme song, The Road Ahead. The dance moves require lots of hand and body coordination – quite exhausting (but fun, still!), as shown by Patricia Mok above.
Joel Choo posted a TikTok video of him and his dad, Zhu Houren dancing to the NDP theme song. And boy, did they give all their might to create this comical clip.

Yvonne and her family got in the NDP mood, had plenty of fun and clocked lots of steps by dancing to this year’s theme song The Road Ahead.
On National Day morning, Cheryl Wee brought her children Marc and Emma to one of Singapore’s best-known tourist attractions, the Jurong Bird Park. She even dressed in red and white to celebrate the occasion.
All the Tokyo Olympics 2021 action must have inspired Janice Koh and her family to get active. She spent her National Day “pretending” to represent Team Singapore, turning her dining room into a table tennis battleground.
Michelle Wong got her creative juices flowing by attending an art jamming sesh at Ki.Li.O Art and painting to her he(art)’s content. We think it’s a pretty good way of destressing too!
