On March 11, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. The announcement came in just as the number of cases in each country spiked, with the number of deaths hitting an all-time high.

Celebrities have been taking to social media to advocate the importance of staying at home and keeping to the highest level of hygiene during this period.

For example, Singaporean actress Zoe Tay shared some pearls of wisdom on her Instagram and urged everyone to maintain good personal hygiene and be diligent in washing hands with soap. We couldn’t agree more.

However, other celebs have taken their socials to share personal news about the virus that we wished weren’t true: they had been tested positive. Here are the famous celebrities and high-profile names who were confirmed to have been infected by the coronavirus.

On October 4 (Singapore time), Creative Director of Kenzo, Felipe Oliveira Baptista, announced on the brand’s Instagram page that its founder, Kenzo Takada, has passed away.

Kenzo’s spokesperson told French media that the 81-year-old died of complications linked to Covid-19 at the American Hospital of Paris.

The late Kenzo had retired from the label decades ago after selling it to LVMH, and delved into other aspects of design. He said in an interview, “And when I decided to work again, I told myself it would be in decoration, more than fashion.”

In January this year, he announced the launch of a new lifestyle brand, K3, which made its debut at the Maison et Objet trade show, as well as in a Parisian showroom.

Victoria and David Beckham

Former English football star David Beckham and his wife, fashion designer Victoria Beckham, have joined the list of celebrities who have been infected by the coronavirus.

According to The Sun, the celebrity couple likely caught the bug during their stay in Los Angeles in March.

Quoting unnamed sources, the British tabloid said Beckham, 45, and Victoria, 46, flew to the United States on March 1 to cheer for his football club Inter Miami, which were playing their first away game at Los Angeles Football Club.

They were joined by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and other members of the Beckham family, including their son Brooklyn’s fiancee, actress Nicola Peltz.

The unnamed friend was quoted by The Sun as saying: “They attended a couple of swanky networking events as David had promotional duties, and were shaking hands and kissing fans and various club dignitaries.”

The family then returned to London a few days later to attend Brooklyn’s 21st birthday party, which was attended by celebrities such as Spice Girl Emma Bunton and rapper Stormzy. The Beckhams returned to Miami shortly after the celebration.

The friend said Beckham, the former player of Manchester United, Real Madrid and LA Galaxy, began to feel ill after their return to the US, with Victoria Beckham having a sore throat and high temperature.

They were later diagnosed with Covid-19.

The source added that the family’s drivers, bodyguards and assistants also fell ill at about the same time.

The friend said Victoria Beckham, also a member of Spice Girls, quarantined the family for more than two weeks as she was worried that they could be super-spreaders.

The couple went for swab tests to confirm they were not infectious before travelling to Italy and Greece for holidays in July and August.

The couple’s spokesmen declined to comment on The Sun’s story.

Madonna

Was Madonna infected with the coronavirus?

The Queen of Pop disclosed on Instagram on Thursday (April 30) that she has tested positive for the coronavirus antibodies, reported The Straits Times.

In her latest “Quarantine Diary” video, she said, “Took a test the other day. And I found out that I have the antibodies.”

There have been questions about whether people with antibodies have immunity against further infections, but the 61-year-old Like A Prayer singer seemed to believe so.

“So tomorrow, I’m just going to go for a long drive in a car, and I’m going to roll down the window, and I’m going to breathe in, I’m going to breathe in the Covid-19 air,” she said.

She tagged her post with #staysafe and #staysane.

Madonna ruffled feathers in March when she posted on social media a video of herself in a bathtub filled with rose petals and called the coronavirus “the great equaliser”.

“That’s the thing about Covid-19. It doesn’t care about how rich you are, how famous you are, how funny you are, how smart you are, where you live, how old you are, what amazing stories you can tell,” she said in the now-deleted video. “What’s terrible about it is that it’s made us all equal in many ways, and what’s wonderful about it is that it’s made us all equal in many ways.”

Madonna had then called off two concerts in Paris, the last dates in her Madame X world tour, after France banned large gatherings to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Her tour kicked off in New York last September and had taken her to Chicago, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Lisbon and London.

American actor Daniel Dae Kim, best known for the television series Hawaii Five-0 (2010 to present), said he had tested positive for the coronavirus, reported Reuters.

He shared this in an Instagram posting and video on Thursday (Mar 19) from his home in Hawaii. “Yesterday I was diagnosed with Covid-19… Looks like I’ll be ok, but I wanted share my journey with you in the hopes that you find it informative or helpful. Hope you all stay safe, calm, and above all,” he wrote.

Kim, 51, said he had recently been in New York shooting a television series and returned to Hawaii when production was shut down.

He said he began to feel ill, quarantined himself and was advised to get tested in Honolulu. He said he was already feeling better.

“Thankfully for me it wasn’t life or death,” he said, urging people to follow guidelines to self-isolate and wash their hands (read also “Are Hand Sanitisers And Wet Wipes Effective In Protecting You From The Coronavirus?“).

He played police lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly in Hawaii Five-O and is also known for his role as a fisherman-turned-hitman on the television series Lost (2004 to 2010).

Kim is one of a handful of celebrities who have announced they have the disease, including actors Tom Hanks and Idris Elba, Game Of Thrones (2011 to 2019) actor Kristofer Hivju, basketball star Kevin Durant and former James Bond actress Olga Kurylenko.

Six days ago, the 63-year-old actor took to his Instagram and shared that he, along with his wife Rita Wilson, had been tested positive for coronavirus after feeling a bout of chills, body aches and slight fevers.

The American actor was in Australia at that time. A day later, he shared that he and his wife are taking “one day at a time” and are resting in isolation.

On March 17, the couple’s son, Chet Hanks, posted a video on his Instagram and shared that his parents are out of the hospital but are still self-quarantined until they feel completely well again. Chet also took the time to remind his followers to keep calm, not to panic-buy and only purchase what is necessary.

Hello folks. @ritawilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us. We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else. There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no? Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball. Hanx

Greetings from Norway! Sorry to say that I, today, have tested positive for COVID19, Corona virus. My familiy and I are self-isolating at home for as long as it takes. We are in good health – I only have mild symptoms of a cold. There are people at higher risk for who this virus might be a devastating diagnosis, so I urge all of you to be extremely careful; wash your hands, keep 1,5 meters distance from others, go in quarantine; just do everything you can to stop the virus from spreading. Together we can fight this virus and avert a crisis at our hospitals. Please take care of each other, keep your distance, and stay healthy! Please visit your country’s Center for Disease Control’s website, and follow the regulations for staying safe and protecting not just yourselves, but our entire community, and especially those at risk like the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions. @grymolvaerhivju #fightcorona #solidarity #takecare #folkehelseinstituttet Thanks to @panoramaagency
