Despite its relative ease of access, plastic surgery is still considered taboo to some. Detractors, on the hand, have no qualms admitting that they have had some work done in other to make themselves look and feel better. No mean feat, especially for celebrities who feel the pressure to look beautiful all the time, compounded with the unrealistic expectations that they are suppose to achieve all of that naturally.
While the decision to have any work done is yours, and is no one’s business should you choose to disclose it or not, these celebs have chosen to lift the veil on the myth of perfection in showbiz by openly talking about the procedures that have done to tweak their looks.
Here’s what they have to say.
One of the biggest actresses in South Korea, Park Min-young has starred in many shows such as Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010), What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim (2018) and Her Private Life (2019). In an interview with Sports Chosun, Park Min-young revealed that she had gotten double eyelid surgery in junior high after she had gotten permission from her mother. She had also gotten her nose fixed as it was crooked.
After pictures of her pre-surgery were released, the actress decided to be frank and confirm the rumours. “I don’t think it’s a bad idea to truthfully state something as is. The past is important, but I hope people focus more on the current ‘actress Park Min Young’.”

In 2013, rumours started swirling on the Internet that the 2NE1 member had gotten plastic surgery after her looks had drastically changed. Minzy and her then-management YG Entertainment later came out to confirm the rumours. She had shared that the surgery was part-cosmetic and part-medical as she was suffering from rhinitis.
“There’s a lot of talk about my change in appearance these days. I’m not the type of person who can hide things, so I wanted to come out and tell everyone right away. I had been suffering from rhinitis for a long time, so I always had a hard time while singing and dancing. When I went to the hospital, they told me that because my nose was crooked, I had to get surgery for a perfect recovery.”
Mandopop diva Coco Lee has admitted to having double eyelid surgery. On plastic surgery, she stated “I think plastic surgery is fine if it helps women to be more confident and happier.” She has however denied having other parts of her body worked on, but somewhat confirmed having had botox.
The Nunu Nana rapper is unabashed about her past plastic surgeries. She shared that under her then agency’s recommendation, she had gotten her eyes and nose done. She, however, came to regret it after looking at the results. “I regret getting surgery. Before I debuted, I wasn’t very photogenic. So my agency recommended I get my nose and eyes done so I did. When I first saw my new face, I cried because I thought I looked like a monster.”
Jessi also opened up about having breast implants done. “I’m a human too, so I end up looking at negative comments. A lot of them talk about how it’s obvious I got breast implants… I paid for the surgery with my own money! Why do I have to hide it?”
In 2018, when South Korean rapper JooE from K-pop group Momoland appeared on variety show Knowing Brothers, she spoke candidly about how she would get ear piercings to relieve stress. As she shared about how much she loved the look of her piercings, she casually dropped that while her left ear had eight piercings, her right only had five because she had to donate some of the cartilage away. When the host asked her where did the cartilage go to, the idol then poked fun at herself, and jokingly went on to say that “It went on an adventure to my nose! So if I pick my nose, I’m also picking my ear!” She also spoke during the December 27 episode of MBC’s “Radio Star,” saying that the nose job happened long before she became a MOMOLAND member.
The outspoken host confessed in 2005 to having had a nose job done in Taiwan. Best known for being in girl-group Jewelery, Kim Ye-Won admitted to having a nose job on an episode of MBC‘s We Got Married, a variety show that paired up celebrities who pretended to be married couples and completed various challenges together. When she and Super Junior‘s Henry had to visit a fortune teller on the show. On a street date in Hongdae, Henry asked the fortune teller if the heart shape of his nostril meant anything, she answered, “It’s a good thing. But it’s a shame it’s crooked.”
Curious about her own nose and what it meant, Yewon asked the same thing with the fortune teller questioning her, “Didn’t you already get your nose done?” Yewon then confessed that she indeed had a bit done on her nose, saying, “Just a little. I’m planning on getting more done in the future, just on the tip of my nose,” surprising Henry with the fact.
Kim Yu-jin, or better known by her stage name Uee, was a former member of the girl group After School. On the show Sang Sang Plus, Uee professed to have had her eyes done. She added that the decision was made as her eyes were “naturally uneven” and she “wanted to even them out,” leading her to undergo minor surgery.
