It was like the stars aligned and the opportunity to give my room a complete makeover just cannot be missed since it was the pandemic lockdown period and I was spending all day and night living in it. Having proper guidance through the Marie Kondo Netflix series on tidying up has definitely helped me get started with the very first steps of decluttering.
Ever since the budget room makeover project, I gained confidence and grew interested in the world of home improvement and interior makeovers with the endless possibilities of what I can do to spice up a space. Thanks to all of the Netflix series that provided me with new ideas and inspiration through the well-executed, beautiful, and sometimes tear-jerking home transformation shows.
How do you truly get rid of things without feeling all sad and sorry over it? Well, decluttering is indeed a daunting task, especially with the sheer volume of things that a regular person can have. It gets even harder when you tie sentimental value and meaning to the special objects that you have around for the longest time.
In Marie Kondo’s Netflix series on tidying up, she imparts her very own KonMari method to help overwhelmed people organise their homes. Instead of choosing what to discard, you choose to keep the selected items that spark joy. The best part about the Tidying Up with Marie Kondo series is that participants are fully involved in the entire process, and they get to experience the transformation in not just the homes, but also the shift in mindsets and lifestyles.

After getting all of the unnecessary clutter out of your life, it is a good time to take your organisation game to the next level. If you dream of achieving aesthetically pleasing storage solutions that are ig-worthy, then you need to learn a tip or two from The Home Edit. The Home Edit is a professional organisation company founded by a duo that values form, function, and fun.
There are 2 seasons of Get Organized with The Home Edit to savour and get an idea of what tasteful organisation looks like, where Joanna and Clea go to the homes of celebrities and everyday clients to help them revamp their cluttered spaces into a space worth stepping into.

When you have a home with children, things can get piled up really quickly with the evolving needs of children as they go through different life stages. With the team of interior gurus, specialising in areas including construction, engineering, creativity, and design, they bring to the families brilliant multifunctional storage solutions and novel engineering ideas to maximise and extend the use of space.
My favourite episode from the Hack My Home series has to be the one with quadruplet babies, as the team was able to make full use of the space for the current needs of caring for infants, as well as future proof by providing the family with 4 full size beds that are cleverly tucked away under the stairs and behind an actual whiteboard.

“What is a new-traditional interior style?”, I thought to myself as I was watching the Dream Home Makeover series on Netflix. After an episode or two, the signature Studio McGee interior style, something in between luxe and minimalist is just chef’s kiss, which kept me going on a Netflix marathon.
Well, if you ever dreamed of having a home that looks chic, well put together, and not too over the top, much like most homes that appear on your social media feeds, then you cannot miss the Dream Home Makeover Netflix series by the couple Shea and Syd. “Whether our clients have two million dollars or twenty thousand, I want them all to feel the sense of peace when they walk in the door,” is probably one of my favourite lines by the interior design wizard, Shea.

Everything seems impossible until it is done, especially with a huge home transformation under an extreme time pressure. With just a 12-hour duration, it is hard to imagine how the team behind the Instant Dream Home Netflix series is able to complete a whole home makeover including the demolition, renovation, installation, and even finishing it off with beautiful home styling from top to bottom.
What’s even better is the whole rollercoaster ride of emotions which you feel for the homeowners when they come back to a completely new home that is out of their expectations, since the entire home renovation is meant to be a surprise.

Are you also kaypo like myself, where you are often curious what is behind the doors of your neighbours’ homes and wonder if they are as amazing as you envisioned in your head? What did they do differently with the renovation works in their homes? What are some of the interesting collectibles they have on display? What are their personal and memorable stories of the homes?
Take a deep breath as you enter through the virtual doors of seemingly ordinary homes with one-of-a-kind interior spaces in the Amazing Interiors Netflix series. Forget about the typical cosy and warm kind of home look, and take a look at some of these extraordinary homes filled with surprises from the homeowners that go all-out by visualising their passion into reality, from sci-fi museum to an actual doll house.

Have you ever dreamed of living in a moving caravan that can take you anywhere you wish? Well, I certainly have as it has been a dream of mine to experience it at least once in my life. Lucky for me, I had the opportunity to stay at the Tiny House at Lazarus Island for a night, which was an enjoyable and memorable experience, unlike any other staycations that I have had.
If you wonder what life is like to live in a tiny house, then you would not want to miss out on the Tiny House Nation series on Netflix. In each episode, the hosts help families build and transition into living in their tiny houses that are no larger than 500 sq ft, in between a 2-room and 3-room HDB unit. What is truly remarkable about tiny house living is all of the smart and sneaky multi-functional storage solutions for the everyday essentials, including a baby grand piano.

We are not big on motels in Singapore, and we are probably more used to the usual budget or boutique hotels. Making over a motel is definitely a big deal with sheer size of the land, in comparison to the sizes of regular homes and apartments that we are familiar with.
In the Motel Makeover Netflix series, the two best friends slash business partners are on a mission to build a motel empire by reviving an old and dingy roadside motel and turning it into an ideal destination for staycations on a budget. With a timeline of 5 months and limitations from the pandemic, April and Sarah dived deep into the major revamp project without any professional experience in design and hospitality.

Beyond home makeovers solving urgent families’ needs, Stay Here is a Netflix series that focuses on short-term rental makeovers to drive up rental profits for property owners. Short-term rentals under 6 months are generally restricted in Singapore for residential units including HDB and condos. Overlooking the whole money-making aspect of the Stay Here show, there is so much that we can pick up in terms of design and hospitality to create an eye-opening experience for families and friends.
In each Stay Here episode, Genevieve Gorder and Peter Lorimer, a pair of designer and property expert travel to the different cities to rejig the space by incorporating more than just interior design aspect, but also the part on business and marketing, on top of infusing the unique aspect of each city into the experience to wow guests and potentially increasing occupancy rate.
