The coolest modern watch collaboration to watch out for

This season, Hublot has taken things up a notch with its latest collaboration with Takashi Murakami, with the debut of its new Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black. Pushing the boundaries of creation by developing a new dynamic through the lens of Murakami’s artistic style, the watch sports the iconic smiling flower symbol on Hublot’s signature Classic Fusion.

Previously, Takashi Murakami has worked with many other brands on their collections which includes the likes of Perrier — for its limited-edition water bottles — Louis Vuitton and even streetwear brands like Supreme. What many love most about the artist are his signature animated painting and sculptures that showcase a blend of traditional Japanese techniques with Japanese modern art. As a result, his work displays psychedelic bursts of colours as well as his iconic smiling flowers and other characters like mushrooms and skulls to life.

Gracing the face of the watch, Murakami’s iconic flower takes centre stage in this design in an all “All Black” style that’s also one of Murakami’s artistic signatures he’s known for. Here, the face and petals are set with sparkling black diamonds, contrasting well against the brushed bezel and black ceramic case. And even without any pop of colour, the watchmaker still manages to convey the exuberant style while relying on motion, texture and the smiling flower icon.

But that’s not all. In fact, the petals of the watch sway and bobble thanks to an ingenious ball-bearing system that’s been developed by Hublot’s team of engineers — a true work of art. It spins with the motion of the wrist, interacting with the wearer’s every move.

Priced at $37,400, the collection is limited to 200 pieces and we’re very sure that it will sell well, much like his previous collaborations with the other brands. So you might want to act fast if you’re looking to get your hands on this timeless piece as this collector’s item will be flying off the shelves in no time.
