Diamonds are a girl’s best friend
K-dramas are usually remembered for their characters, plot and captivating storylines. But what viewers often don’t consider is the amount of time and detail that’s spent selecting the wardrobe and jewellery pieces to complete the look. All of these small additions are what create the complete packaging, making a so-so drama serial into a memorable one.
If you’ve caught the K-drama fever, then you’ve definitely had that moment when you’re watching a drama, and the male lead pulls out an elegant piece of jewellery that you wish was yours. Check out some of the iconic jewellery pieces that were worn by our favourite K-drama icons.
Ask any K-drama connoisseur which are the must-watch drama of 2018 and this drama is most likely on the list. The drama is based off the classic “Journey to the West” where the famous Korean heartthrob Lee Seung Gi plays Sun Wukong who falls head over heels with the successful real estate CEO Seon Mi played by Oh Yeon Seo, a character based on the monk Tan Sanzang. If you watch the series it’s hard to miss the jewellery brand, miniGOLD, on the show.
As the brand ambassador of miniGOLD, the actress can be seen with minimalist style earrings and necklaces throughout the show. The most memorable piece from the drama is the rose gold Connect R ring from miniGOLD that is a surprise gift from Sun Wukong to Seon Mi, which bears a striking resemblance to his magical bracelet. You can purchase the rose gold ring from the official miniGOLD from $122 onwards (options of 10k, 14k, or 18k gold).
The hit military drama that captured hearts worldwide may have ended its run, but it continues to inspire pop culture trends. Late last year, local jewellery brand Citigems partnered with Korean celebrity jewellery designer Bjoon Kim to create an enhanced replica of the J.Estina Luce Helio necklace that the male lead of the drama, Song Joong Ki, gives to the female lead, Song Hye Kyo.
The rose gold pendant costs $438 and is made to look like the sun with its rays embellished with 18 small diamonds that weigh a total of 0.18 carats.
The cubic zirconia 14k white gold necklace from the South Korean jewellery brand Stonehenge’s Silhouette collection plays an integral role in Legends of the Blue Sea, as Lee Min Ho’s character Heo Joon Jae played his con man antics to capture Shim Chung’s (played by Jung Ji Hyun) attention to get her antique jade bracelet. In return, he gives her the necklace from Stonehenge. The necklace costs $403 and is available on the brand’s website.
This is another widely acclaimed drama that also stars Jung Ji Hyun. Actor Kim Soo Hyun plays Mo Yeon, an alien who landed 400 years ago during the Joseon Dynasty period. Even though he possesses a near perfect appearance and enhanced physical abilities, he can’t help but fall in love with a clumsy actress, Cheon Song Yi, played by Jung Ji Hyun.
Apart from Jung Ji Hyun’s solid acting chops, another thing that left a deep impression on us were her pair of Didier Dubot Long Galaxy Star Gold Earrings that is a nod of the celestial theme of the drama.
This epic fantasy drama is the latest project of Kim Eunsook, who also wrote the script of the smash-hit Descendants of the Sun. It has already set hearts and minds racing in South Korea and beyond as it stars one of the hottest actors in show business at the moment, Gong Yoo, who plays the titular character, Kim Shin, who has been cursed to a life of immortality. Kim Shin’s love interest, Ji Eun Tak, is played by the gorgeous actress Kim Go Eun.
In one of the scenes of the drama, Gong Yoo, presents Kim Go Eun with a beautiful necklace from the South Korean brand Stylus Jewellery that spells out the word “Destin” which means fate in French. How romantic!
The story that stars Lee Jong Suk and Park Shin Hye centres around a man who lives under a fake name and a woman who is unable to lie due to “Pinocchio Syndrome”. In the drama, Lee Jong Suk hands Park Shin Hye a button from his shirt as a pledge of his affection to her.
The latter then made it into a necklace and would frequently sport this cute-as-button necklace (pun necklace) throughout the show. The button necklace that Park Shin Hye was wearing in the series is from the French brand, Agatha Paris.
Just like the necklace in Descendants of the Sun, this sun necklace seen on Gong Hyo Jin also plays a pivotal role in the 2013 horror romantic comedy, Master Sun. The show centres around Joo Joong-won (played by So Ji Sub) who is a stingy and greedy CEO of Kingdom, a conglomerate.
He meets the gloomy Tae Gong Shil (played by Gong Hyo Jin) and their lives get intertwined as they start to work together to deal with the terror and melancholy brought about by spirits. In the drama, the cold and distant CEO of a conglomerate, Joo Joong-won (played by So Ji Sub) regains his memory with the help of the necklace. The necklace that Gong Hyo Jin was wearing in the series is from J.Estina.
