Who: Perhaps best known for his former role as chief fashion writer of The Sunday Times Style, Colin McDowell is one of the most influential figures in the fashion industry. His book McDowell’s Directory of 20th Century Fashion continues to serve as a standard reference for fashion students.
In recognition of his contributions to the fashion industry, he was awarded an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) by the Queen in 2008.
What: A 13-part course at Business of Fashion to understand the importance of fashion history and how key moments continue to impact the industry. Each module discusses a particular milestone in fashion, such as YSL’s tuxedo suit for women and the avant-garde aesthetic of Japanese designers Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto, and its relevance today.

Who: New York-based celebrity stylist Allison Bornstein prides herself on helping clients cultivate an “effortless everyday style”. She has worked with the likes of Gigi Hadid and Katie Holmes.
What: Allison is offering wardrobe consultations for US$150 per hour, of which US$50 will be channelled to the Food Bank for NYC, a hunger-relief programme for low-income New Yorkers. The sessions, which are conducted over Facetime, will allow you to ask Allison questions on how to create everyday looks, or how to get dressed for particular events.
Who: Editor-in-chief of her own fashion website, stylist and consultant Julia von Boehm is fashion director at Instyle magazine. She is known for her styling and art directing work for campaigns of major brands such as Jimmy Choo, H&M, and Vera Wang.
What: Donating with Style is an online styling session where 100 per cent of proceeds will be donated to charities that are actively combating the effects of Covid-19. Sessions are conducted on Zoom at US$600 for a one-hour session, or US$300 for a 30-minute session.
From April 27 to May 4, Julia is collaborating with Instyle to give styling sessions to readers who make donations to selected charities during those dates.
Who: The New York- and Los Angeles-based fashion stylist and image consultant has not only worked with brands such as American Express, Disney, and Galeries Lafayette, she has also styled celebrities like Alexander Skarsgard, Channing Tatum, and Meryl Streep.
What: Alicia is offering online styling and closet edits at US$200 per hour. All proceeds will go to The Bowery Mission, an organisation that helps the homeless, hungry and at-risk youth in New York.
