These are the top designer bags that Singaporeans bought on Net-A-Porter

Whether you’re a regular shopper or only buy things that you really need, you’d surely have heard of Net-A-Porter. The luxury retail site celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and we daresay it has changed the way people have shopped for luxury items over the years.

Besides influencing our shopping habits and making merchandise accessible 24/7 at the tip of our fingertips, the sites have also impacted the way other traditional fashion houses conduct commerce on the Internet, changed our mindsets about how fine jewellery and high-end watches can be traded virtually, and served as the springboard for new emerging and independent labels to reach a wide global audience.

As for Net-A-Porter specifically, one thing that makes it tick is the curation of designer handbags. As of press time, the site carries more than 1,100 bag styles on the site which range from popular seasonal models like Bottega Veneta’s The Pouch to the new Baez tote from Gabriela Hearst. Indeed, the site’s growing repertoire of cult bag labels like Hearst’s has become a big draw for shopaholics.

To mark its 20th anniversary, Net-A-Porter has revealed just what exactly are the hitmakers were and are when it comes to the bags that customers from Singapore have been carting in the past two decades.

When Mansur Gavriel became a cult favourite years ago and now, it’s one of the most beloved fashion brands. Their bucket bag, which launched in 2013 proved to be an instant hit. This mini version is perfect for those who are looking for small but roomy bags.

At one point, you could spot the Alexa satchel on every other girl on the streets—that was just how famous it was. The everyday bag is so versatile that you can pair it with a casual outfit or a girly ensemble. It’s no wonder why it was so popular!

Some girls (like us) just have more things to carry around and this oversized Alexa is perfect for us to bring our whole house and vanity table.

Small, roomy and stylish – basically everything we look for in a crossbody. This is perfect to bring for travels (when things get better) and day out with the girlfriends.

Love the camera bag but want it in a bolder colour? You’re not the only one. This red beauty is the sixth best-seller in Singapore!

If you’re wondering what’s the difference between this and the one that ranked at number 5, there are two things: the gold metal clasp for this is hidden, so you can a full black piece, save for the logo, and this is slightly thinner at 2cm in depth, compared to the previous one (4cm).

If you’re looking for a bag that can fit everything you need (wet tissue, hand sanitiser, extra mask, dry tissue… everything you need while going out during this Covid-19 pandemic) then you’ll love this bucket bag.

Looking for a long handle bag that you can carry in your hand or on your shoulder. This makes for the perfect weekend bag when you’re going for a staycay or staying over at your man’s house.

The list, arranged in the order of the most number of units sold, shows that the pared-back bucket bag design from New York cult brand Mansur Gavriel has the widest crowd appeal. Not surprising, another It bag that made it to the list is the now-defunct Alexa satchel by Mulberry’s then creative director Emma Hill which was launched in 2009 and became a must-have item in the mid-aughts.

If there is one takeaway as to what shoppers in this part of the world crave in their bags, it would be that practical designs and black bags will never wrong. One just needs to look at the popularity of camera bags like from the likes of Marc Jacobs’ Snapshot to Gucci’s GG Marmont Camera for proof. In these unpredictable times, could this be a trend that we will drag on?
