Did someone say polka dots? Spot on! Check out these 10 key pieces to add to your work wardrobe

The S/S ‘17 catwalks were dotted with polka dots (see what we did there?) across most of the runways, and we’re more than happy to indulge in this trend. More so because some of our favourite stars like Rebecca Lim have been spotted (sorry, couldn’t help ourselves) sporting the p-dots too.

To salvage your time hunting for the your next spotty purchase, we’ve gathered 10 of the best pieces for you to add to your current work wardrobe. Yes, you read right…work wardrobe. Don’t restrict yourself to ‘all black everything’ from Monday-Friday week in, week out. These will liven up your ensemble without running any risk of ‘inappropriate’ work attire. With its capped shoulders and high round neck, this maxi dress is absolutely perfect for a long Monday at the office.  It’s easy to throw on, made from stretch jersey so it is comfortable for long hours and gives you a rather feminine silhouette too.

Style tip: Neck to toe polka dots can be quite overwhelming, so best to steer clear of any clashing prints, oversized jewellery or embellished shoes. We think simplicity is key here, so throw on your favourite black slip on mules and arrive at your desk with 5 minutes spare. Sorted.

We can’t get enough of this dress! This is great for the days you have to go meet clients, head out to events or even have a cheeky dinner date after work. The exposed shoulders are balanced out with the long drop hem, but if you can’t have your shoulders on show all day, throw over a light cardigan until it’s date time.

Style Tip: We can’t ignore the obvious nod towards the 1950’s Golden Era, so we have to pair this with red lipstick and some bow-tie Mary Jane court shoes.

This piece is very versatile for your office style because it can be worn as a top alone over pants, or as a blazer to sharpen up your white shirt. Yes, it’s quite bright but no, we don’t really care. For the serious office meetings simply remove the blazer and you’re good to go.

Style Tip: This can be easily dressed down for your off-duty style by pairing with some ripped denim shorts or jeans, sneakers and sunglasses.

Not brave enough to embrace the dots on your clothes? No problem, Balenciaga offers you an on-trend alternative with these heels. The polka-dot satin twill that encases the shoe leads to a pointed toe, helping to elongate your legs as well as keeping your feet stylish.

Style Tips: Avoid clashing these with other polka-dot prints, particularly black and white. Instead pair with a dark navy skirt or culottes, and a simple top so that the shoes are able to take full limelight.

Now this number stole our hearts, for all the right reasons. It’s reminiscent of the old romantic style, made with floaty chiffon and complete with white light piping and ruffled trim. This dress works wonders for your wind-down Friday at your desk, as well as family brunch plans over the weekend.

Style tip: For the office, simply wear your hair up to show off the details of the neckline, and pair with some strappy wedges to stay on theme.

Boldly going where not many polka dots dare to go…this dress has a base colour of beige with drawstring details, ruffles AND bell sleeves. That is a lot going on for one dress, but weirdly, it all works. In fact it works so well, we think it’s a great addition to your work wardrobe. The waistline keeps your figure looking slim and feminine and the rest hits all the right trends. Yes to bold, yes to this dress.

Style Tip: Considering there is so much going on, the only thing you may wish to do is break up the dress a bit with a black waist belt. Pair with some black pumps and keep your hair out of the way to avoid looking ‘over fussy’.

Nothing ruins your day more than a pair of beautiful killer heels that…kill your feet. We do love style but darn it, we love comfort more. That’s where these twill slides step in (oh gosh, we really can’t stay clear of the puns today). For a breezy office vibe, you can pair these shoes with pretty much any outfit of choice.

Style Tip: Wear with straight or skinny cigarette cut pants and a long sleeved shirt to balance out the ‘open’ aspect of the slides.

Given our climate, a cotton maxi skirt (or a maxi dress) really is a girl’s best friend. This one in particular is a fantastic buy for the summer – given it’s semi-sheer fabric, high waist and below the knee hemline – it transitions from work to play in a jiffy. Perfect for the days where you have a busy evening planned after work with no time to go home and change.

Style tip:  For the day, tuck in a light bow-detailed blouse and some ballet pumps, then swap in a bardot-style crop top and quirky heels for your evening plans.

We know what you’re thinking…these are a bit much for the office right? Well actually, not quite right.  These leggings work wonders for those not in a ‘white collar’ job who can express their ensemble creativity a little more freely. They also can then transcend to after-work yoga classes, which is a result. Just maybe not on the same day – you’ll probably want to change first!

Style tip: To tone them down slightly, wear with an oversized dark shirt and then some black ankle boots for that final touch.  Playful, but still work-okay.

Okay so this is probably not appropriate for the office, but we couldn’t help to include it because…well just look at it! Proof that polka dots don’t have to be the traditional black and white, this maxi dress hits all the right spots for our weekend style. Made from crepe de chine, it has adjustable straps at the base of your back, allowing you to create your own perfect fit. It’s just beautiful.

Style Tip: Do you really need to do anything else with this dress? We say nay. However, a good pair of large sunglasses and some strappy beach sandals will complete your look for some down-time fun. Oh, and an oversized white hat will work wonders too.
