These aren’t your run of the mill layered necklaces or statement earrings – we’re talking outrageously gigantesque drop earrings that dominate half of your face, and crystal-emblazoned neck braces for the glamorous Gucci nerd.
Forget modern minimalist-type jewellery, the upcoming season calls for outlandish pieces that toe the line between the gaudish and the grand. To help you navigate your way to hit that sartorial sweet spot, we’ve rounded up some of the most stylish supersized accessories seen on the SS18 runway.
To enthrall its magpie consumers, Gucci went all out on the glitz and glamour for SS18. Case in point: This crystal beard-like neck brace. The diamante chin strap can proudly claim its title of ‘first of its kind’ – we know we’ve never seen anything like it before in fashion books, that’s for sure.
To match the flamboyance of its disco tops and matching sparkly tights, Gucci also sent enormous bulbous gumball necklaces and colourful chandelier-type earrings down the runway. The king of maximalism Alessandro Michele does live up to his name.

For its SS18 show, Chanel delved into an ephemeral landscape with an aquatic theme. The theme ran rampant throughout the jewellery, which resembled raindrops; from oversized drop earrings to bubble pearl necklaces. Blindingly sparkling earrings with bling cascading from the iconic CC logo accompanied that of a bedecked necklace which glimmered in the reflection of the waterfall.

As Sarah Burton took the shears to traditional English clothes and deconstructed them for the Alexander McQueen SS18 collection, one particular accessory from the olden Victorian ages remained unscathed: the Gothic necklace.
Hefty teardrop rubies, topaz and emeralds intercepted by ginormous pearls hung off robust sterling chains chandelier-style, making a strong statement for olden English romanticism.

Maison Margiela’s travel-themed runway show offered a full flight of jet-setting accessories (you just have to try and look past these gimmicky swimming caps) like these elfin-ear earrings.
These amorphous earrings feature inorganic black and white patterns and shapes with an artful touch, guaranteeing them as a show-stealing must-have for the season ahead.
Set against the backdrop of the glistening Eiffel Tower, the elegant jewellery at Saint Laurent shone in a way on its own. Massive gems hung atop one another in a never-ending cascade that made for pair of statement earrings. Giant hoops were encrusted with diamonds and ear cuffs were given a scintillating upgrade with dangling strands of chains.

Spirals of gilded pearls made its way to the Y/Project runway as gargantuan danglers. Coils of pristine pearls followed suit, snaking around a neckpiece of larger-sized pearls. Modern, sophisticated and yet effectively rendering an avant garde appeal, the accessories shown with loud allusions to designer Glenn Martens’ knack in building new, never-before-seen silhouettes in jewellery.
