The recently concluded Korean romantic drama Now, We Are Breaking details the falling in love and breaking up between men and women. Besides starring My Roommate Is A Gumiho’s (2021) Jang Ki-yong, the show garnered attention due to the participation of top actress Song Hye-kyo as it marks her next television project since Encounter (2018-19) and Descendants of the Sun (2016).
As both Song and Jang played fashion industry insiders, the show served up many amazing looks and styles. Inspired, we’ve rounded up four ways you can do couple fashion with your partner without wearing the same clothes, according to Now, We Are Breaking Up.
Denim is an essential fabric for couple dressing. Just take a look at how Song Hye-kyo and Jang Ki-yong are also wearing denim in similar shades of blue to echo each other.
Song Hye-kyo used a knitted top as a scarf and used a brown crossbody bag and belt to add a pop of colour to her double denim ensemble.
Jang Ki-yong, on the other hand, wore a darker wash denim jacket and jeans to show off his casual side.
Trying to match silhouettes requires a little more styling skill but the result is well worth it.
Song Hye-kyo matched her striped top with a pair of wide-legged pants and a longline blazer, looking every bit like a stylish city woman. Her white handbag with gold detailing added to the sophistication.
Jang Ki-yong opted for similar wide-legged trousers with a white T-shirt layered with a deep blue jacket. The result of their looks together: simple yet stylish.
Black and white make for a classic combination that every couple can easily pull off. And of course, you don’t have to dress like Song Hye-kyo and Jang Ki-yong here. The guy could wear white and the lady in black, for example, to play around with the colour pairing.
In the picture above. Song Hye-kyo is wearing a white top with a black skirt while Jang Ki-yong reflects that by sporting a white shirt underneath his black jumper.
Tip: Notice that Jang Ki-yong’s white cuffs are partially revealed after pulling up the sleeves, for a white accent. This is a simple trick you can pick up too.
Couple dressing doesn’t have to involve the same colours either. Using colour theory, the colour most compatible with red is green. So while Song Hye-kyo captivates us with her scarlet dress, Jang Ki-yong went for muted olive green trousers with a versatile blue denim jacket. The two ended up looking harmonious and comfortable without their outfits screaming that they are a couple.
Here, Song Hye-kyo is wearing an earthy brown outfit with boots while Jang Ki-yong complements that with an earthy green jacket and brown T-shirt.
Take a look at Song Hye-kyo’s sleeves. Notice how the shirt cuffs are turned outwards onto the coat sleeves to add a layer of dimension to the outfit.
The point here is to have common details in both outfits that subtly reflect that you two are together. Song Hye-kyo is dressed in a feminine pink romper with matching pumps. And while Jang Ki-yong is dressed in all black, notice how his shirt is of a similar shade to what she’s wearing.
Tip: When wearing nude shades, pick one that is slightly darker than your skin tone to show your skin’s complexion and radiance.
In this scene, both of them wear similar collar designs in their solemn yet elegant outfits.
