Covid-19 has impacted many businesses, affecting many major designer brands due to the closure of physical stores in order to safeguard everyone’s health. Most fashion players took the time to take a step back to reflect and implement change on their business models. However, as we creep closer to a new season, one inevitable question that we have is: How are brands going to present their SS ’21 collections now that fashion weeks are not happening?
Can fashion brands do without runway shows and press presentations? Well, some brands have already set out a plan for future shows. Here’s what they are doing for their SS ’21 collections, in response to the global pandemic.
The American fashion label will not be presenting its collection during fashion week. Instead, it will hold a mini presentation somewhere around Oct and Nov. More details will be revealed soon.
Burberry will carry on with its fashion week schedule with a certified carbon neutral show set in the British outdoors on Sept 17. Guests will not be invited for this show, but it’ll be available for viewing online.
As of June 16, 2020, Matthew M Williams has replaced Clare Waight Keller as creative director for the French label.
“I am extremely honoured to join the House of Givenchy,” says Williams. “The maison’s unique position and timeless aura make it an undeniable icon, and I am looking forward to working together with its ateliers and teams, to move it into a new era, based on modernity and inclusivity.”
The brand did not mention any cancellation of its future shows, and it’s believed that it will carry on with it at Paris Fashion Week. It’s said that Williams will be debuting his collection for Givenchy in Paris in October.
The Italian fashion label’s creative director Alessandro Michele announced that it will cut back on the number of shows it hosts annually from five to two. These two shows will showcase timeless pieces instead of seasonal ones. More details on whether it’ll carry on with its SS ’21 at Milan Fashion Week will be duly updated.
The French fashion label has cancelled its plans to showcase its SS ’21 collection on the runways. According to its press release: “Saint Laurent will take ownership of its calendar and launch its collections following a plan conceived with an up-to-date perspective, driven by creativity.”
CEO Serge Brunschwig announced that this Italian fashion label will carry on with its fashion show, which will be held at the Palazzo della Civilta on Sept 22. The physical show will comprise both mens and womenswear, with a limited number of guests participating. It will also have a digital aspect.
