Get your daily fibre fix
image

When you’re on a big-city holiday, meeting your daily fibre and vitamin intakes can be hard because being virtuous just isn’t on your to-do list.

To prevent yourself from feeling under the weather and potentially ruining your trip (touch wood), make a beeline to the nearest juice store and swap your usual fizzy pop for something fruity and equally delicious.

Juice Press and Juice generation are just some examples to look out for. They offer a variety of cold pressed juices, acai bowls, super food smoothies and organic goodies for the health-conscious crowd. Plus, these colourful items make for irresistible Instagram props, too.

Visit MoMA for free
image

New York City isn’t just about shopping; swing by one of its most famous museums for some cultural immersion and nuggets of artsy info for use during the next time you need to make small talk. Admission to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is USD$25 per adult, but there’s a simple way to get complimentary access to admire the works of Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso and more.

Thanks to Uniqlo, museum-goers can enjoy free access to MoMA on every Friday evening. This sponsorship, which started in May 2013, has since saw over 1.6 million locals and travelers visit MoMA.

The Japanese fashion brand has also recently announced that it’ll renew its sponsorship with MoMA.

At the same time, art enthusiasts can shop for Uniqlo designs that are inspired by the works of MoMA artists like Andy Warhol and Yayoi Kusama, so it’s a win-win all round.

Get a wardrobe revamp
image

We’d like to think that a trip to New York City is never complete unless you return with your hands full of shopping bags. And when it comes to stylish outfits at affordable prices, Uniqlo has plenty of options.

Check out its flagship store at 5th avenue; there’s over 89,000 square feet of retail space, making it the biggest retail store along the famous shopping street.

Shopaholics will be glad to learn that this store is also the largest Uniqlo store in the world, so the chances of leaving empty handed is pretty darn low, if you ask us.

Try a hot dog bun on the streets
image

You may find your stomach growling during a shopping excursion, which means it’s time to grab some small bites.

Why not swing by one of the many food trucks that line the streets of New York and get a taste of a legit hot dog bun?

Bonus: Most food trucks are pretty inexpensive so feel free to reach for a second serving; and since you’re on a holiday, calories don’t count. Your diet can wait!

Try the pizzas on paper plates
image

You’ve had a hot dog bun or four and now you’re probably wondering, “What’s next?” Well, a slice of pizza, of course.

New Yorkers can often be spotted grasping white paper plates (yes, the same ones that we’ve all probably seen at birthday and office Christmas parties) stacked with pizza slices when they’re on the go.

Budget-friendly choices such as Champion Pizza and 99 Cent Fresh Pizza can be found easily on the streets of New York City, so feel free to sample as you shop.

Check out beauty products at local drug stores
image

Want to stock up on beauty products that aren’t available in Singapore (yet)?

Swing by a local drug store like Duane Reade to browse a wide selection of skincare and makeup products that you may not be able to find anywhere back on our sunny island.

The thrill of testing out a new product and discovering it before anybody else is well, very satisfying.

Buy mini posters as souvenirs
image

Vintage magazine covers, movie posters and portraits of famous actors – they’ve all been transformed into mini posters that can be framed.

These make great gifts for movie buffs and fans of instantly recognisable celebrities like Audrey Hepburn and Sarah Jessica Parker. Available on the streets of New York City.

Explore the Glossier showroom
image

Beauty junkies will be familiar with the much hyped brand Glossier. Founded by Emily Weiss, the millennial-focused brand sells a range of fuss-free products with the most pretty Instagram-friendly packaging (not all that surprising because us millennials are all about social media).

The showroom stocks all of Glossier’s products, including its signature Boy Brow and Perfecting Skin Tint, meaning you’re free to test them out for as long as you want.

Located at 123 Lafayette Street.

Take (lots of) street photos
image

Sure, New York may be home to some of the most iconic buildings in the world (think Empire State and Chrysler buildings) but that doesn’t mean you have to visit those skyscrapers to mark your debut trip.

Instead, turn to the beautiful “regular” buildings that line the streets of New York City.

These picturesque blocks are aplenty so you can be assured that there will be no shortage of beautifully taken street shots and #OOTDs.

Visit Chelsea Market
image

Foodies, you’ll want to leave some room in your stomach before checking out Chelsea Market. Here, expect numerous eateries that proffer a plethora of options to tempt and satisfy any craving.

When you’re done eating, swing by the other stores such as the Posman Books store to pick up a novel for your bookworm bae, or grab a handful of quirky greeting cards as souvenirs for your friends and colleagues.
