The fashion industry has long been scrutinised for its sustainability actions. And with an increase in demand for sustainable fashion by millennials and Gen Z, it’s become almost mandatory for luxury powerhouses to implement practices and produce clothes that are eco-friendly.
One label that’s doing this is Longchamp, which will be releasing its eco-conscious Green District collection in August. The collection comprises 10 bags made with Econyl, a trademarked regenerated nylon yarn made from ocean waste. The French maison uses Econyl produced by engineering company Aquafil.
“Our current innovation efforts are aimed at improving our processes and materials to reduce our environmental footprint,” says Jean Cassegrain, CEO of Longchamp. “Through the use of recycled fabrics, we are able to achieve the same level of quality as traditional fabrics.”
Here, the five bags to get to showcase your stylish and sustainable side, for both work and play.
Not a fan of toting a bag around on your arm? Opt for this backpack instead. Best worn with a khaki pantsuit for contrast.
The maison’s iconic Le Pliage gets a printed makeover – and we’re obsessed. Match this with a white summer frock for brunch with your girlfriends.
Cool and edgy, drawstring bags may come across as more masculine looking. However, women can definitely pull it off. Tone it down with a girlie number like a floral dress.
Go hands-free and strap this belt bag across your chest for that effortless street attitude. Wear it with an oversized sweater and wide-legged pants for maximum streetwear cred.
This adds a dash of colour to your monochrome ensemble without looking too OTT. Rock it with a simple black T-shirt and matching tailored pants.
