Throw some shade with our ultimate stylish sunglasses guide
An eye for an eye...
There are two things we Singaporeans carry on us at all times: An umbrella and a pair of shades. From wet season to dry season, there always seems to be an erratic daily change of rain and scorching sunshine (yes, welcome to our tropical climate) which is why sunglasses for us are not just a fashion accessory, they’re a must-have.
Luckily, the powers above…aka designer brands…understand our need for such shade and have created some incredibly stylish and UV protected sunnies for this fall and next spring too. Why? Because we couldn’t decide on what range we preferred so we simply had to include both. From oversized to one-lens to layered lenses to embellished lenses AND frames, we’ve got something for every taste.
The layering of frames and lenses is huge for glasses right now, so you’ll see this technique alot across the designer brands for both A/W ‘17 and S/S ‘18. Tiffany & Co lead the way for next spring with this oversized shape in premium acetate that features rounded temples with both the new Tiffany 1837 cuff décor and iconic hallmarks in fine enamel. Made for women who enjoy such signature details, the frame is available in exclusive acetates, including black on Tiffany blue and new brown-spotted Havana on opal Tiffany blue.
Inspired by the 70’s yet reinterpreted in a contemporary way, the FENDI RUN AWAY sunglasses celebrate the graphic heritage of FENDI with a feminine touch and come in five colours – blue, black, brown, red and pink. So there’s a choice for every style of woman.
For A/W ‘17, BOLON have delivered chic and lightweight frames that offer understated designer luxury. These modern sunglasses are designed with a distinctive silhouette. Featuring ultra slim metal frame and coloured flat lenses, the must-have design is both versatile and feminine at the same time.
The only issue? You’ll need to wait until mid November for the launch of their A/W collection to hit the stores to get your hands on them! But they’re well worth the wait.
These butterfly sunglasses in acetate with metal bridge are both feminine and elegant. The large frames are available in a stunning alternative version with real gold lace added to the acetate on the front section and temples, with matching mirrored gold lenses. Available in the following colour combinations: leopard with burgundy background and gradient brown lenses, black with gradient grey lenses.

The one lense sunglasses are huge this season (and next) and getting your hands on a pair now will serve you well. Retrosuperfuture deliver this frameless style made from one sheet of lightweight azure acetate, delivering that ‘effortless’ off-duty vibe with ease. The reflective lens keeps away the glare…but it may not keep away the boys!

Ray-Ban decided to create a fusion of this year’s best performing icons into an exciting new sunglasses style – The Marshal. Mixing the unique angled profile of The Hexagonal and the flat upper bar and temples of The General, this distinctive look is available in 7 colour options, including polished gold, silver and gunmetal plus 3 new gradient mirror shades for a more contemporary look.

Pink to make the boys wink? Actually, we don’t care about whether they wink or not…we love these shades just because. Worn by the likes of Beyoncé, Jessica Alba and Rihanna. This pair is fitted with bright violet lenses that are mirrored to cut out glare. The gold-tone winged frames draw the eye upwards to make the face appear flatteringly longer.

Prada has decided minimalism isn’t their thing for next season’s shades, delivering some sunglasses that ooze designer luxury. These frames feature a tortoiseshell nose bridge, circular lenses (which suit most face shapes) and have crystal embellishments on either side. They’re on the right side of ‘too much’ whilst also displaying an overload of personality at the same time. We love them!
Designed with clear frames, horn rimmed details with lightweight materials, these A/W ‘17 sunglasses from BOLON feature a fun yet chic style. The red lenses and deep red frames delicately tipped in the upper corners delivers that feminine and playful juxtaposition we so yearn for.
Available Mid November in store, price currently unavailable.
Can glasses get any more extra than these? According to Saint Laurent, apparently not. These ‘New Wave 207 Jerry’ cat-eye sunglasses have crystal embellishments covering the frames in almost their entirety. Suitable for those with petite features, these shades will accentuate your cheekbones.
These A/W ‘17 shades by Miu Miu feature softly rounded design of the lenses which is exalted by a sleek metal structure outlining a feminine cat-eye shape. Given the rounded lenses and the shaped frames, they’ll suit almost every face shape.
The array of colours includes tones of charcoal shaded lake, charcoal mirrored dark chocolate, purple flash and mirrored dark chocolate for the lenses, framed by a metal profile in hues of black, antique pink, glitter peach, and garnet. In collaboration with fashion blogger Aimee Song, these Gentle Monster sunglasses have an acetate delicate frame in subtle leopard print. We never thought we’d add the word subtle and leopard print in the same sentence, but it really does work! The flat pacific-blue mirrored lense contrast the frames and the cut-out accent at temple tip means the overall feel to this pair is sleek and chic, but airing on the playful side.
