Soft, silky wedding day hair: 8 hair oils every bride with damaged ends needs
L'OCCITANE Aromachologie Repairing Oil, $46 for 100ml
I was thoroughly impressed (and I suspect you might too) by how this sank into my hair and love how its gorgeous scent lingered for a long time too. The key ingredient here is sweet almond oil, which is rich in vitamins and Omega 9, alongside the Aromachologie range’s five essential oils. Plus, it offers regenerating properties and sun protection, and doubles as a heat protectant.
Abyssian Oil Hair Serum, $15 for 15ml or $53 for 50ml
Absorbed quickly, this restores and revitalises hair ends with a blend of Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil (or Abyssinian seed extract) shea butter and sweet almond oil. It didn’t just leave a lasting scent but kept my brittle ends feeling softer without weighing it down. Plus, for every product you purchase, Abyssian plants a tree in return! Phytojoba Moisturising Care Gel (for dry hair), $39.90 for 150ml
If conventional oils aren’t your cup of tea, Phyto’s treatment may just appeal to you. The newly reformulated Moisturizing Care Gel of the brand’s cult-favourite Phytojoba series comes in a emulsion-like texture that spreads easily.
A cocktail of Jojoba oil, water and hyaluronic acid, it also utilises Hydra-Soin technology that combines three biopolymers to coat each strand with a protective veil. There’s no icky residue and my hair felt instantly less straw-like and silkier. Plus, the light fruity scent is an instant mood-lifter.
Available at Guardian, Metro and My Beaute Paris stores.
Moist Diane Argan Oil, $19.90 for 100ml
Packed with Moroccan argan oil which is rich in Vitamin E, antioxidants and fatty acids, this drugstore product is proof that a good product doesn’t require doling out too much cash for a product that works.
While it had an initial subtle fragrance, this didn’t last. It did, however, make my strands feel softer without weighing it down and without greasiness. I love that it didn’t leave any oily residue on my hands too.
Available at Watsons.
Dove Advanced Hair Series Regenerate Nourishment Serum-in-Oil, $17.90 for 50ml
Formulated to combination of oil and serum works together to smoothen hair while promising to repair and strengthen tresses.
“It definitely left my hair softer, but I felt that it didn’t deeply nourish my colour-treated hair as I’d hoped it would,” says Her World Brides writer Cassandra. But if your tresses haven’t been bleached to death, it makes for a wallet-friendly option that lends decent results.
If its name is any indication of how lightweight this is, you’d best believe it. Infused with Moringa seed oil, as well as Hydrolyzed soy protein and bamboo extract, it seals in moisture and two to three drops are all you need to instantly smooth flyaways for a more manageable mane. Its mini 17ml bottle is also great for tossing in a travel bag for your honeymoon or pre-wedding destination shoot.
Available at Sephora.
Percy & Reed Smoothed, Sealed & Sensational No Oil Oil For Thick Hair, $14 for 15ml
If you have a crowning glory of thick hair but need help managing it, this helps tame your unruly mane with pomegranate seed oil that keeps frizziness at bay. It’s best used after your shower on damp, towel-dried hair, although the brand says you can use it sparingly on dry locks as well if you want a touch of shine.
Thanks to a high concentration of Camellia oil, which is a rich source of fatty acids and antioxidants, it hydrates, nourishes and protects hair from UV damage and gives dull locks a healthy shine. The lightweight formula seeps deep into the hair shafts without a greasy feel.
