9 signs it's definitely time to give your wardrobe a complete overhaul
It's time for a wardrobe revamp
Here’s the thing. Most of us tend to stuff our wardrobes with pieces we buy on a whim… without actually taking a good look at what we already own. If you’re ticking off this checklist of warning signs, it’s high time you sit down and properly re-evaluate your closet. Sure, it can be heartbreaking throwing or giving away items you once loved, but this is something you’ll thank yourself for in the long run.
1. You just can’t seem to find anything to wear
… even when your wardrobe is filled to the brim. You know something’s reallyyyy wrong when you take at least an hour to put together an outfit, and emerge feeling like you’ve just ran 5km.
You feel like you’ve exhausted all your options; you’ve tried various combinations and there’s nothing fresh anymore. Deciding on an #OOTD is supposed to be a happy problem, not make you feel perpetually angsty.
3. You have a pile of clothes you’ll “wear next time”
This is all too familiar: Getting your hands on a pretty item at a sale, only to realise you have nothing to match it with. “One day,” you say, “one day”. But that day will never come – not unless you break this vicious cycle. So either buy a staple that can go with the item in question, or simply sell or give it away.
4. The number of worn out items you have is astonishing
Your favourite jeans are even more faded than authentic vintage jeans; your sweater is literally fuzzy; your mum has been nagging at you to chuck your worn-out clothes… yup, now is the time. It’s one thing to be sentimental, but you ought to let go when it’s at the expense of looking put together.
5. You see what people wear and think “if only I had that”
Style envy is real, but when it happens way too often, it can mean that deep down, you’re not happy with what you have in your wardrobe. Getting satisfaction is a huge part of dressing up, no? It can also be a telling sign if you don’t have items in your wardrobe to recreate the fabulous look of that stranger on the street; stamp out that envy by getting new stuff.
Last you checked, you had five wardrobe essentials to buy – but it became 10, and the list goes on. This only means your closet is becoming increasingly irrelevant, and you need to go shopping, stat. Getting those long overdue staples like a blazer and tailored pants will solve your headache.
We ladies can go a little crazy when we find a style we like – by buying 20 different versions of the same thing. And you probably haven’t even used half of them. Instead of getting trigger-happy, try limiting yourself to just one or two investment pieces so you can leave the money and space for something else to jazz up your wardrobe.
A special event is supposed to make you feel special. But when you’re always wearing that same black dress or are even hesitant to go for an event because you don’t know what to wear, it’s time to take a good look at your wardrobe to see if there’s really nothing dressy you can piece together. And it’s also time to go shopping for glamorous coordinates.
At the crucial moments, you always can’t seem to find that tank top or pencil skirt, which can waste a lot of precious time, not to mention create a ton of frustration. This is when you need to sort out your wardrobe and organise your clothes in a way you’re most comfortable with; according to colour, for instance. This will save you from pulling your hair out every morning.
