REVIEW: 5 amazing chocolate ice cream for chocolate lovers

They sure took their time to expand from their three-item menu (two types of whole chocolate cakes, and a mini lava cake) since they first opened shop in 2011, but the wait was well worth it. It’s a gutsy dose of dark Belgian chocolate, luscious in the mouth, with a long, deep cocoa finish. A little goes a long way.

“Hei” translates to “black” in Mandarin, and it was everything the name and pitch-black colour promised. The cocoa hit on the palate was strong but (thankfully) not bracing, with the creamy mouthfeel balancing out the intensity of the chocolate.

This was one of the priciest soft-serves out there, but it was a darn good splurge ─ satiny and dark, and swathed in a crisp Begian waffle cone that’s rimmed with crunchy chocolate biscuits. Sheer luxury.

We’re big fans of the gelato counter at Emporium Shokuhin, and this housemade tub of dark chocolate has a lot of coca oomph. What’s surprising is that it starts off super rich and velvety but finishes really cleanly in the mouth. Even after a huge scoop (or more), you wouldn’t feel overwhelmed at all.

This cosy little kiosk is devoted to Japanese soft-serve ice cream in all its numerous sweet and savoury flavours ─ from matcha to sesame and even kuri (chestnut)! The silky swirls of the Nama Choco carry an elegant bittersweetness from the combination of single origin dark chocolate with fresh cream.
