10 designer puffy strap sandals to get right NOW (cos’ they’re comfy)

Who doesn’t want to feel as if they’re walking on a bed of pillows?

by Michelle Yeoh  /   March 3, 2020
Designer puffy sandals you'll want to buy right now

For a while now, heavily padded jackets and puffy quilted bags have gained a legion of zealous fans in the fashion world. Fashion’s biggest It-girls wrapped themselves in a blanket of uber-plush puffer jackets, with inflated quilt bags from Bottega Veneta on hand.

For S/S ‘20, it appears that the all-things-snug trend has proliferated and spanned across categories to include footwear as well.

Appearing on Proenza Schouler’s runway show were a series of sleek, tubular leather padded straps that fastened the feet onto square-toe sandal soles with modern sculpted heels.

The trend was also spotted at Miu Miu, in the form of colour-blocking pink and metallic gold slingback sandals with a doughy knotted vamp.

Not to mention Bottega Veneta’s Insta-famous quilted woven sandals, which were seen in a collection of covetable hues from turquoise to sky blue.

Proenza Schouler padded leather sandals, US$745 (S$1,042.63) from Moda Operandi

Proenza Schouler’s uber-chic padded leather sandals were one of the standout footwear pieces of S/S ‘20.

Reintroduced during the brand’s recent F/W ‘20 show, there’s no doubt that these kicks will be a smashing hit amongst the fashion crowd this year. Available for pre-order, this pair of square toed sandals in black features a thong strap with pillowy soft tubular straps.

Everything about these sandals from Miu Miu delights us: from the black velvet elastic slingback that resembles a scrunchie, to the dough-like texture of the soft knotted leather straps.

Bringing to mind the season’s penchant for craftwork, these spring-ready sandals juxtapose pink and metallic gold puffy leather straps for a whimsical touch. We can’t wait to slip these on for the beach, who’s with us?

BV Curve sandals, S$2,360 from Bottega Veneta

Lately, it’s clear to see that Bottega Veneta is enjoying a long-running streak of producing best-selling accessories that attain cult-like status amongst fashion’s it crowd.

The brand’s Intrecciato strap sandals are one of the key items to take note of this 2020. Seen with twisted padded straps and a narrow curved toe, our favourite rendition of the brand’s BV Curve sandals is the one rendered fully in glossy lilac. A total ‘90s mood.

Cecilie Bahnsen black Suicoke edition Maria beaded sandals, US$485 from Ssense

Yet another trend we’ve been seeing plenty of as of late: velcro strap trekking sandals elevated with a designer’s sensibility.

These sandals are a part of the collaboration between Japanese footwear brand Suicoke and Cecile Bahnsen, who is known for her feminine designs that meld together relaxed Scandinavian stylings with romantic Parisian influences.

Featuring a delicate field of periwinkle blue flower beads detailing the velcro straps, these sandals are the perfect blend of cool utility and youthful sweetness.

Givenchy chunky leather sandals, US$595 from Moda Operandi

We think we’ve found the perfect workplace shoes for lazy days. Crafted from smooth camel brown leather and a chunky ridged sole, these sandals from Givenchy balances contemporary minimalism with sporty athleisure.

Branded by the House’s signature logo on the insole, these slides feature a soft puffy wide vamp for utmost comfort. And don’t get us started on our appreciation for slides – no socks to throw on, no shoelaces to tie, and no fussy straps to adjust. An absolute winner for looking polished while keeping your feet happy.

Balenciaga Home croc-effect leather slides, US$490 from Moda Operandi

The moniker says it all: Balenciaga’s “Home” shoes highlights the carefree, lounge vibes emulated by these dark brown croc-effect slides. Showcasing a soft padded insole to step into and an equally cushioned vamp, these modern and tongue-in-cheek slides make for perfect conversational pieces.

The all-over croc-embossed print on the smooth calf leather keeps it looking exquisite and high fashion – it’s a true embodiment of the brand’s knack for reimagining everyday objects as covetable luxury items.

Heron Preston padded strap sandals, S$1,200 from Farfetch

If you’re looking for shock value, that’s exactly what you’ll get with this number.

Savvy streetwear brand Heron Preston creates a pair of unique square toe sandals with a quilted touch strap fastening that showcases contrasting black stitching against grey nylon. The brand’s logo tag is seen in bright orange on the strap and insole, complementing the striking orange sole.

Kenzo cross strap sandals, S$525 from Farfetch
image

One is unable to fathom how uncontrollable our excitement was upon seeing these electric pink sandals from Kenzo. These soft comfy slides seem as though they’d feel like a perpetual pillow wrapped around our feet.

Featuring a pared-back minimalist silhouette to anchor the saturated pink hue, these sandals are set atop a rubber sole shaped to extend past the footbed for a deconstructed look. Insert heart eyes emoji here – we’re completely floored.

Midnight 00 scrunchie strap sandals, S$615 from Farfetch
image

Instagram-famous shoe brand Midnight 00 sure knows plenty about crafting footwear worthy of going viral on the ‘gram.

The brand’s ladylike tulle-festooned polka dotted heels helped the brand amass a widespread following, and it looks like it’s shifting gears to give rugged trekking sandals the same romantic, princess-like detailing. Fitted with rose pink and orange silk scrunchie straps, these lovely sandals have awakened the inner ‘90s child in us – and simply put, we’re officially obsessed.

Dries van Noten leather platform sandals, S$812 from Mytheresa
image

Dries van Noten lets the silhouette do all the talking with these black sandals with exaggerated platform soles with a square toe and a modern geometric shape.

Simplified by tubular padded leather flip flop straps and a lack of other showy details, these modern sandals look like they’d add a sophisticated, creative energy to any ensemble: from a sleek shirtdress for the office, to a dressed down white tee teamed with a fun printed skirt for the weekend.
