For someone as limelight-shy and spotlight-aversed as Rei Kawakubo – the subject of the Costume Institute’s current retrospective – diamonds may seem inappropriate at the Met Gala 2017.
But hey, it’s a gala, and there’s a red carpet – some bling can be forgiven, especially if it’s spotted on the likes of Selena, Bella, Kate and Lupita.
There’s the long Cartier vintage necklace that actress Kate Bosworth had worn backwards, complementing her backless custom-made Tory Burch gown (major old Hollywood glam there!).
Elsewhere, a pair of Chopard crescent diamond earrings was seen hanging delicately on Brazilian model Adriana Lima’s earlobes.
Actress and singer Selena Gomez opted for a Tiffany & Co. vintage choker necklace which exuded major #BadGirl vibes to contrast her fairy-like gown by Coach.
That’s not all. We’ve rounded up some of the most bedazzling jewels spotted on the Met Gala 2017 red carpet for your viewing pleasure. In other words, #DiamondPorn.
Selena Gomez’s Coach gown may have been super lady-like but it was her strong eye makeup and this Tiffany Archival Amethyst Cummings necklace with different gemstones including rhodolites and diamonds that brought out the punk girl in her.

To glam things up, she also wore a set of Cartier vintage earrings (1934) in platinum, 18k white gold and diamonds, as well as a Cartier ring in platinum, ruby, diamonds and onyx.

It may be hard to tell but Julianne Moore’s earrings are in fact made up of 114.36-carats of yellow and orange sapphire briolettes, 4.61-carats of diamond briolettes and 0.38-carats of diamonds set in 18k white gold.
In short, they were the perfect companions for her colourful and feathery Calvin Klein dress.
