Exhibited at The Hermès Third Floor from October 19 to November 27, 2011, The Famous One from Lucas #1 by Christine Ay Tjoe deals with the tribulations of repentance and forgiveness with the warmth of infinite parental love and kindness. Specially commissioned by Hermès, this site-specific art installation was inspired by the biblical Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32). The parable spoke out to Christine because of its very relatable, almost universal context; Lucas’ situation, she says, “can happen to anyone”.

The soft fabric walls of this art installation create a cosy, cocoon-like environment at Third Floor.
Each of these art objects are hand-made by Christine; dolls and ‘pebbles’ are stitched together with pantyhose material and are filled up with tulle and soft goose feathers.
Track these little pebble-like objects as you follow the wayward child’s journey home.
The centrepiece: The affecting site of reunion between father and son. A red spotlight shines on a spot on the tattered sofa, gesturing towards the father’s patient wait for his son’s return.
Childhood nostalgia: A handmade doll rests upon bundles of pantyhose, tulle and goose feathers.
