“We met at my cousin’s 21st birthday four years ago. At the end of the night, we were both smitten, but Andrew didn’t know how to ask me for my number, while I didn’t want to make the first move.
So he used the oldest trick in the book: He pretended to have misplaced his phone and used mine to give him a call. The rest of it, as they say, is history.”
Lucikly for them, their proposal was rather more sweet and less cheesy.
“It was Christmas Eve when he proposed to me. In front of both our families, he made a speech, got down on one knee and popped the question – as they do in all the sappy romance movies,” says Kyla.
“To be honest, the entire theme sort of revolved around the dress. We found the perfect Vera Wang ball gown and, as we all know, we don’t alter a Vera to fit the venue; we alter the venue to fit Vera. The forest-themed ballroom at Crowne Plaza matched the floral embroidery on the dress to a T,” says Kyla.
“The last few months were hectic as we decided not to get a wedding planner, but I was so impressed with how Andrew and the entire bridal party of 18 managed the decorations for the venues and even the car! They definitely exceeded my expectations, and I couldn’t have done it any better myself.”

“During the ceremony, I was so overwhelmed and couldn’t believe that the love of my life was standing at the end of the aisle.
Most importantly, he didn’t run for the hills! He just stood there with a smile on his face, and I knew that moment would be etched in my heart forever,” says Kyla.

The couple only went to the florist the day before, and Kyla’s grandmother did the floral arrangement for the bridal bouquet and even the corsages.

“We were both so caught up in the wedding fever that we forgot to write our speeches, and only realised that when we were on stage. We admitted to everyone how we winged the entire day and were going to wing the speech too.”
“Thankfully, we planned a surprise cake for my cousin, as it was her birthday – after all, we did meet on her 21st. So we kept the speech short and proceeded to the cutting of the cake.
Although we saved everything till the last minute, we managed to pull everything off, and I wouldn’t have done it any other way.”
