There is no doubt that much of the fashion industry has a very heavy environmental footprint. Second to oil, it is the second largest polluter in the world. (We kid you not.) So it is about time that we did our part to save Mother Nature and make the planet a better place, so why don’t we support the eco-fashion trend. Designer Ben Freedland was quick to get the memo. Freedland, who previously worked for Giorgio Armani and Michael Kors, has recently launched a Jute collection of handmade beach bags under Zink, his brand of artisan handbags. Partnering with Non-Government Organisations (NGO) in South Asia, Zink is working towards improving the socio-economic conditions of rural women through education and training, and ensures fair wages for the artisans.
Singapore designers weren’t slow to get the memo either. We’re proud to share with you some of our local eco-fashion brands that are super fashionable yet super eco-friendly.
