Most affordable sneakers that are timeless
Shoes day, every day

Sneakers have been an increasingly favoured footwear due to the rising popularity of streetwear and athleisure. However, if you’re into collecting sneakers, it can be an expensive interest with luxury labels like Balenciaga and Common Projects releasing coveted pieces, such as the Triple S and Original Achilles respectively that come with a hefty price tag of at least $1,000.

Not everyone can fork out a huge sum just to stay up-to-date with trends. Here, we show you a few renowned labels that put out timeless sneaker styles. In other words, you won’t have to be afraid that your kicks will go out of trend anywhere in the near future. Bonus? None of them are above $200.

Price: $89.90

It looks like the tri-coloured sneaker isn’t going anywhere this season, having blown up on the Instagram feeds of fashion gals everywhere since the emergence of Balenciaga’s Triple S sneakers. This affordable alternative boasts of sleek, contemporary deeper colours of maroon, yellow and turquoise, rendering it the perfect choice for work.

2. Bershka Contrast XL sole trainers
image

Price: $99.90

Hard on the heels of modern cult favourites like Fila’s Disruptors, these chunky kicks are the perfect (and more comfortable) alternative to high heels, giving you that extra boost in height with their exaggerated soles. It pairs surprisingly well with the season’s essential floral dress, but we like to team this with a T-shirt and a slip skirt for a cute ‘90s ensemble.

3. Nike M2K Tekno
image

Price: US$62 (S$84)

We love a good pair of leather sneakers for days where we want to look more polished and put together – with say, a mini shift dress for the office for instance. For those who prefer an edgier style, look to Nike’s M2K Tekno sneakers in black and white. Crafted in grained leather for a polished look, these kicks feature a special colourblock design on the sole for an added tongue-in-cheek quality.

4. Adidas Originals Multicolored Yung 96
image

Price: US$70 (S$95.29)

It’s hard to find a pair of multicoloured sneakers which, in spite of its melange of bold colours, manages to look “grown up” and chic enough for a sophisticated palette. These sneakers from Adidas Originals are rendered in rich hues such as grey, ‘bold gold’ yellow, ‘solar’ red, black, and green, and will team well with a denim midi skirt and satin camisole for summer.

5. Champion Reverse Weave White 93Eighteen
image

Price: US$53 (S$72.15)

Our appreciation for the trusty white sneaker runs so deep, we think it deserves the title of a “Girl’s Best Friend-adjacent” (next to diamonds, of course). They’re a classic, versatile in every way and timeless. This pair of buffed leather version from Champion features a sportier look, with the signature red-and-blue logo flag on the centre of the tongue and a contrasting blue/beige rubber sole.

Featuring a reflective, iridescent rainbow panel that will place you at the forefront of the metallic sneakers trend, these white lace-up sneakers from Zara are quirky, yet surprisingly wearable. The futuristic silhouette sets it apart from the other sneakers on our list, and we can’t wait to rock ‘em with our favourite pair of jeans.

8. Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Low
image

Price: $69

Mention “classic sneakers” and what immediately spring to mind are Converse’s Chuck Taylors. They’re iconic for a reason: The simple design gives your outfit an effortlessly casual and sporty feel, and the sneaker’s prevalence since the late ‘50s is a testament to its timelessness. If you don’t already own a pair, it’s worth investing in one right now. Say hello to your new everyday shoe.

10. Keds x Rifle Paper Co. Triple Kick
image

Price: $117.66

We know, we know. We’re cheating slightly with these stunning kicks from the Keds and Rifle Paper Co. collaborative collection, considering how it’s slightly above the $100 budget – but we just couldn’t help ourselves. Featuring an uber-adorable canvas sole illustrated with dainty folk-style florals, these white canvas sneakers are an absolute steal.

11. Converse Chuck 70
image

Price: $109.90 (low top), $129.90 (high top)

First released in 2013, Converse‘s Chuck 70 pays homage to its OG, The Chuck Taylor, whilst retaining its iconic All Star sneakers’ silhouette.

Comprising of both low and high top (pictured), the Chuck 70s is all about the nitty gritty and uplift aesthetics: Sturdier canvas upper for increased durability, cushy foam insole for extra support, nickel-plated eyelets for a more refined outlook and an ecru outsole that emanates a worn out appeal. Something that all sneakers should possess, in our opinion.

12. Adidas Originals Stan Smith
image

Price: $140

Originally created in 1971 for the world’s top tennis player Stan Smith during that era, this pair of sneakers has now transcended into a must-have pair in every sneaker fanatic’s closet.

The Stan Smith has gone through several renditions (btw, it also went through a phase of discontinuation from 2011 to 2013), which now includes the iconic trefoil logo and hallmark at the back, as well as a portrait painting of the tennis player himself on its tongue.

13. Nike Air Force 1
image

Price: $149 (low), $159 (mid), $179 (high)

First produced in 1982, the Air Force 1 is the OG of all the subsequent Air Force series. It’s the first-ever pair of basketball shoes that utilised Nike’s Air technology.

Referencing its name from the plane that charters the President of the United States, this pair of sneakers have three different types of styles: namely low- (pictured), mid- and high-cut.

14. Vans Old Skool
image

Price: $79

This pair doesn’t need any further introduction: it was seen on everyone (and we mean everyone) in 2017 and 2018. The rise in skateboarding culture in the ‘70s is what popularised this pair of kicks — and its brand — but it went into a phase of irrelevance during the Noughties.

It was due to its non-flashy, black-and-white colourway and understated design that brought this pair of kicks back to its heydays. And of course, the sightings on celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Brooklyn Beckham and Gigi Hadid played a part too.

Forget about your Fenty x Puma, because Puma isn’t about fresh kicks fashioned in collaboration with Rihanna. Made in 1968, the Suede sneakers is known as the “Clyde” amongst sneakerheads as it was popularised by American basketball superstar, Walter “Clyde” Frazier of the New York Knicks.

This pair of sneakers comprises of a rubberised midsole and outsole, as well as a suede upper.
