5 things from the kitchen you can use to clean your silver jewellery

This clever fruit has multiple uses. Not only is it great in salads, warm tea and a G&T –  this little gem cleans your jewellery too! In other words, you can never have enough lemons in your fruit bowl.

To use, simply add a few drops of lemon juice to 1/2 cup of water. 

With the help of a toothbrush, dip it into the juice and start scrubbing away the dull parts of your jewellery to unveil a shiny new looking piece of silver.

Baking soda is also another multi-purpose ingredient you’re likely to find in your cupboard.

To get started, mix a 1/4 cup of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of water.

With a piece of cloth, dip it in the solution and rub gently against the silverware. Once you have gone over all the oxidised areas, run it over cold water and gently rinse off the solution.

Then, with the help of a piece of kitchen paper, use it to pat the jewellery dry.

Not only reserved for Friday afternoon drinks, beer can also work wonders for your lack-lustre jewellery too.

To use it, fill a glass with beer and drop your silver jewellery into the glass, leaving it there overnight.

The next day, simply remove the jewellery out of the glass and give it a rinse under tap water.

With a little help of a used toothbrush, a little toothpaste and some scrubbing, your jewellery can achieve it’s full shine again.

To remove any residual toothpaste, simply run a slightly wet cloth over the silver piece.

Fill a cup with a half water half vinegar solution and mix well.

Pop your silverware into the solution and let them soak for a couple of hours.

Remove your items from the cup and run them under tap water to rinse off.

Then pat dry with a little kitchen paper.
