10 key pieces for the lovers of 'all black everything'
Our love affair with the shade of black is endless
image

When you’re next popping out for lunch or dining in the evening, shopping in the mall or clubbing until early hours – stop and take a good look around. We bet our life savings (which is approx $15, go us) that the majority of people will be wearing head to toe black.

Sure, we get that it’s a lifeless colour that represents death, misery and the darker side of life – but who wants sunshine and rainbows anyway? Besides, we all know that black is the easiest colour to wear; it’s slimming for all and it’s the best at hiding stains. Not to mention black is usually a direct representation of our mood most days, particularly prior to kopi.

So if your wardrobe already looks like the Grim Reaper’s top style picks, then we’re pretty sure you’re going to love these key black pieces for you to out-black-yaselves.

This blazer style long sleeved dress is absolutely perfect for your Monday morning at work. Yes we’d all love to chill out in loungewear for days on end but unfortunately, the boardroom meeting is calling.

That’s where this dress comes in – it’s quick to style (just add black court shoes), covers you up in all the appropriate places and gives you the air of ‘girl boss’ but not too much. You know, the approachable version.

Misha dress, $110 from SheShops.

Blazer playsuit
image

Is it a playsuit? Is it a blazer? Is it two items or one? We’re as curious as you are, which is why we fell for this very unique piece by Lavish Alice. With the structure of a playsuit but appearance of a blazer, it’s a very easy piece to wear to work, out for lunch, to events or wherever else you so desire to go.

Elevate the playsuit with stiletto heels and drop earrings for a night out, or rock with black fluffy slide-ons and a messy bun for your daytime affairs.

Lavish Alice blazer playsuit, $69.00 from Robinsons.

Embroidered velvet jacket
image

To avoid looking like ‘death warmed up’ on the daily, give your black ensembles some bold texture. From accessories or details on the garments, it’s okay to embrace a little bit of sartorial play in your blackness.

This jacket is the perfect example. Made from velvet, it has a light lower hem ruffle and is covered in dark bead embellishment. We think it looks epic and has a real luxury feel to it, even though it’s only $119.

Embroidered velvet jacket, $119 from Zara.

Mini double glossed-leather backpack
image

For all your expeditions, trips away or even just trips to the mall…a backpack is an essential. We’re so over teeny clutches that barely hold a lipstick. That’s why this Marc Jacobs little number is high on our priority list – it’s roomy with a front separate zipped pocket too, and the gloss finish gives some texture to our black ensembles.  Sling it over one shoulder and you’re good to go.

Marc Jacobs mini double glossed-leather backpack, $418.79 from Net-a-porter.

Long sleeved bodysuit

Running alone the vibes of ‘less is more’, we think there is nothing sexier than a plain black figure hugging top, tucked into figure hugging jeans. It allows your feminine charms speak for you, and shows your naturally confident with who you are. This long sleeved V neck bodysuit is a great example. Team it with a choker if you’re feeling a little extra, or if not, rock exactly as is.

We’d team these with some killer court shoes or some funky ankle boots (see next slide for our choice!) and a black tee, topped off with a crisp blazer.

These kitten heeled pointed ankle boots have something rather ‘witchy’ about them, and we love it. With a side zip and front lace detail, they fit very snug against your ankles and ooze style points. If you’re daring, rock these with cropped black trousers or culottes to give them the airtime they need and deserve.
