Before designing hats for Chanel, Priscilla Royer… has never designed hats.
But the Central Saint Martins graduate was the designer for Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label, and also briefly ran her own brand, Piece d’Anarchive, which she started with her sister in 2012. Piece d’Anarchive won the ANDAM First Collections Prize that same year, then shuttered in 2014 after a swan song presentation in collaboration with famed French artist Jean-Pierre Raynaud. In 2015, she was approached by Chanel to take creative reins at Parisian millinery Maison Michel, to “rethink the brand from A-Z, starting with its Fall/Winter 2015 collection”.
And for Maison Michel’s Cruise 2019 showcase here at On Pedder, Royer visited Singapore for the first time to personally launch the collection.
She shares her top 10 favourites with us: her go-to hang outs in Paris and London, favourite type of yoga, everyday footwear and bag, and way to relax.

“I go to November Books in London. The owner, Paul Lawrence is a long-time friend who sells amazing vintage books about photography, art and fashion. He always gives me good tips about what’s good to get before it’s sold out – very limited editions. For my 30th birthday, he offered me a very rare book, big and heavy with so many pictures of punk archives.”

“The food and wine are always delicious at Clamato, and the atmosphere is easy going and certainly not over the top. For Indian food, my favourite restaurant in Paris is Krishna Bavan. I love the food there.”

“I wear a big black frame from IDC, a vintage frenchement brand from the ’90s that I bought from a shop on Redchurch Street in London. I always have them in my bag for screens and reading. But the lens are very dirty – I am like a kid with this.”

“Walking in the forest and swimming – to feel connected with nature and the lightness of floating in the water.”
“My Helmet Bag from Porter is the perfect size. It fits my cap, high heels, laptop, folders, a book and all the other things I need for the day. I don’t use the shoulder strap though.”

“Mount Kailash – the Tibetan treatments are beyond excellent and the meditation sessions are a real relief.”
“I use Skin & Tonic. My sister gave it to me one day when I was supposed to have my picture taken. She strongly recommended it to me as I tend to have dry lips and now I cannot quit using the products from this line.”

“I go to Yoga Colibri for Ashtanga sessions. It’s ideal for stretching. My instructor, Eric, has been teaching me since I moved back to Paris.”
