Did you know that Jessica Jung, who was originally born in San Francisco, California, was talented spotted while she was on holiday in South Korea? She would later go on to train for seven years before debuting as one of nine members in K-pop biggest girl group, Girls’ Generation, in 2007. Talk about serendipity!
But beyond her singing prowess, the Ice Princess, as her fans lovingly call her, is also known for her sense of style. In fact, her love for fashion prompted her to start her own label Blanc & Eclare in 2014 and it has now grown to a reported 60 stores worldwide. You can find some of her pieces on Zalora as well.
In celebration of her hitting the big 3-0 on April 18, we broke down five of her best looks and show you alternatives you can get your hands on to recreate her polished style. Psst, it’s not that difficult.
Scroll through her Instagram and you’ll realise that Jessica really loves layering outerwear over a simple combo of shirt (or t-shirt) and jeans. With a wide variety ranging from denim jackets, to blazers and trenches, the one that caught our eye however, was this Chanel tweed number she wore.
The neutral grey/black tones of this Gucci jacket might look dated, but the piece has been given a modern boost, thanks to the brighter signature tri-colour grosgrain trim and the sassy feline buttons. Layer it over a slinky cami top tucked into a pair of white wide-legged trousers and pointed heels.
Gucci boutiques are located in Paragon Shopping Centre, ION Orchard and Marina Bay Sands.
Channel vintage vibes with this plaid number from Mango. Made in a deep vermillion colour, its cheery shade can spice up a simple work look in an instant, whether you choose to pair it with an A-line dress or with a shirt and slim-fit trousers.
If it isn’t already evident already from the collaboration between her fashion label Blanc & Eclare and South-east Asian e-tailer Zalora, Jessica loves a good handbag. Besides those she created, like the Poppy bucket bag she’s toting in the picture, Jessica has been spotted with bags from labels such as Alexander McQueen, Fendi and Marc Jacobs, just to name a few.
Introduced as part of Saint Laurent S/S’19 collection, this shoulder/crossbody bag is a great size for women who don’t carry much — just the bare essentials of your wallet, keys, mobile, lipstick and blotting sheets. We love that the YSL-embossed medallion is in a muted black, giving it a touch of understated elegance. The piece is also versatile enough for work with a pantsuit or a date night with an off-shoulder dress.
Another bag that is in a micro size, we love the cute ribbon detail and the sparkly metallic hue that will surely amp up your party vibe. This box clutch bag can be worn four ways — a clutch, a handbag via the top handle, a shoulder or a crossbody with the adjustable detachable chain strap. Use this to add a touch of femininity to a navy jumpsuit and brogues outfit.
From straw hats to shield yourself from the harsh summer sun to snapbacks for casual day outs and berets to complement a chic outfit, the stylish singer knows the accessorising prowess that a great piece of headwear has. And now you do too. With so many options available, take your time to choose a type that would be a perfect finish for your look.
This cap from famed milliner Maison Michel adds a spunky masculine touch to your outfit. Made with a neutral camel colour, it is also easy to match. For the weekends, pair with a double denim look which will have a casual yet well thought-out effect. At work, a shirt and palazzo trousers combo would play well against the casual looking cap.
If you’re seeking a neutral colour but still want some brightness and vibrancy, then this mustard yellow cap from Zara is the candidate for you. Pair this with a denim boilersuit for added swag and throw on a pair of ankle boots.
Never one to shy away from the sun, Jessica loves a good sunny vacation and often posts photos of her enjoying her time by the beach or people-watching at a cafe. While we Singaporeans tend to run from shade to shade in fear of UV rays, Jessica’s repertoire of cheery summer dresses, such as this check number, makes us think that life in the sun ain’t that bad. Oh, it makes us dream of the azure beaches in Santorini too.
Florals are a summer staple, especially when they are printed onto lightweight and breathable silk fabric as seen on this dress from Kenzo. Pair this sexy slip ruffled number with a medium-brim straw hat and match with espadrille heels. Beach outfit sorted.
Linen is a fabric great for summer because it can wick sweat while retaining its lightweight and breathable quality. Keep your outfit simple and pair it with dainty gold or silver jewellery and block heels.
Jessica loves a great pair of heels. Not only do heels add height to the petite 1.63m lady, they also make her legs look more toned, lean and lengthy. But don’t be mistaken, Jessica has been pictured many times in flats too, often switching between easy slip-on mules to comfy sneakers. Still, heels suit the fashionista and are a stylish way to add class to an ensemble, especially when she’s attending more chichi events.
Boots are great because they add a punk rocker-chick edge to any outfit. Plus, this Stuart Weitzman creation features a back zipper to allow ease of access. Pair this simple suede piece with a leather jacket, white t-shirt and black skinnies for a biker girl look.
Easy to slip on and off, these black sandal mules from Heatwave can be worn for both work and the weekends. One way to style it is to play up the strappy quality by pairing with a strappy bralette and distressed denim.
