If there’s one textile that will always transcend time and trends, it’s denim. What was once the workhorse fabric of cowboys and labourers has made its way to high fashion houses like Dior and Balenciaga. Balenciaga creative director Demna even sent a double denim ensemble that took baggy jeans to a whole new level down the runway (or should we say, into the storm) at his Fall/Winter 2022 show in Paris.

Though the twill-woven fabric is often associated with jeans and jackets, a new generation of denim has emerged. At Diesel’s Fall/Winter 2022 ready-to-wear show, a pair of jeans transformed into a sexy belt-like mini skirt that echoes what Y2K icon Paris Hilton once said about how all mini skirts should be the size of a belt.
