The Golden Globes this year wasn’t just a celebration of film and television, but it was also the first major award show after the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment allegations. Prominent women from Hollywood came together and started the Time’s Up initiative which aims to raise awareness about gender inequality, abuse and harassment. Oprah Winfrey, the first African-American women to receive the Cecil B DeMille award, also used her acceptance speech to address the situation and to talk about women empowerment.
Stars arrived in black to show support for the movement and to protest against the unfair treatment. It had so much support that it was reported that there weren’t enough black gowns to go round, leaving celebrities fighting for the same pieces.
