The Golden Globes this year wasn’t just a celebration of film and television, but it was also the first major award show after the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment allegations. Prominent women from Hollywood came together and started the Time’s Up initiative which aims to raise awareness about gender inequality, abuse and harassment. Oprah Winfrey, the first African-American women to receive the Cecil B DeMille award, also used her acceptance speech to address the situation and to talk about women empowerment.
Stars arrived in black to show support for the movement and to protest against the unfair treatment. It had so much support that it was reported that there weren’t enough black gowns to go round, leaving celebrities fighting for the same pieces. From the looks of these glamour leading ladies, it seems to have worked out just fine.
From strong and bold shoulders to dramatic trains, here are our top 10 picks from the Golden Globe Award 2018.
It was no surprise that the Fifty Shades series star and Gucci ambassador Dakota Johnson wore a gown from the Italian fashion house. Although seemingly simple from the front, the velvet gown revealed a tulle train connected by a silver ribbon embellishment when she turned around.
