Best dressed celebs at the 69th Venice International Film Festival
The best of Venice film fest
Organised by one of the most prestigious cultural organisations in the world, La Biennale di Venezia, Venice Intermational Film Festival (VIFF) 2019 took place at Venice Lido from August 28 to September 7, 2019.
Some of the most anticipated films of the year were premiered at the festival, such as The King, starring Timothee Chalamet and Robert Pattinson, as well as Marriage Story, starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson. The lineup also included competitions like the Venezia 76, which saw 21 feature films in the running this year.
Amidst the spirit of competition and the slew of film screenings, we scouted the star-studded festival for some of the best-dressed.
Veering away from her usual cool girl aesthetic of leather jackets and ripped jeans, Kristen Stewert delved into unchartered territories for VIFF. The American actress known for her roles in the Twilight Saga and Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) was seen shrouded in fuchsia with this lace bustier dress with a matching bolero jacket from Chanel. But her tousled pixie definitely adds the perfect amount of edge to the otherwise feminine ensemble.
Even as rumours between Lily-Rose Depp and Timothee Chalamet continue to explode on our feeds, we’re definitely more caught up with the French actress’ pale pink gown for VIFF. There’s something about this flowy number and matching scarf that exudes a sense of timeless elegance. It is quite a breath of fresh air for the red carpet, a place which often becomes a battleground of trends.
Before we even get into the outfit, we need a moment for Meryl Streep’s red carpet power posing that’s giving us all the inspiration to chase away those Monday blues. But speaking of blues, we love how Streep paired her billowy floral Givenchy piece with oversized shades, simply because we can’t tell if Streep is on a red carpet or a vacation.
Ever since garnering international fame for her leading role as Adèle in Blue Is the Warmest Colour, the French actress has been gliding through red carpets like an absolute dream. And for VIFF, we have to agree with her Instagram caption that nothing screams “princess mode” as much as slicked back hair, minimal gold accessories and a voluminous rose-pink gown.
In a stroke of genius, Margaret Qualley deftly combined the power suit and the dad suit. With hair pulled back into a loose ponytail and minimal make-up, the 24 year-old American actress and dancer is the definition of effortless chic.
Decked in Alberta Ferretti threads and Bvlgari jewellery, the Chilean actress certainly makes us feel like Christmas came early. Her floor-length coat peeks open to in all the right places to reveal tailored champagne trousers and an oversized candy-pink bow. And this, ladies, is how you pull off super cute and ultra chic all at once.
The 46 year-old American actress who has appeared in the swimsuit issue of Sports illustrated never disappoints on the red carpet, VIFF included. Red lips, deep-v neckline and a flared midi – Molly Sims was glowing with old Hollywood glamour – proving that retro is always in.
Also decked in Alberta Ferretti threads and Bvlgari jewellery, this Spanish model and TV presenter was dressed to kill. We love how Nieves Alvarez completed her sexy sequin look with a black smokey eye, chiselled contour and a wet slick back hairdo.
