Want to look like a shampoo model? Try these foolproof ways to stop your thinning hair from falling out
1. Sleep more
image

Without proper rest at night, your body can’t fully recharge and repair itself. This sends your immune system into a frenzy and weakens it. Your body may also have a harder time absorbing important nutrients which can lead to more hair fall. Here are another eight reasons for getting enough shut-eye at night – trust us, getting the recommended seven to nine hours a night makes a world of difference!

2. Stress less

I know, this is easier said than done. Everyone can attest to rising stress levels as the years go by, and this can really take a toll on health if not managed properly. When the body is under a lot of trauma – say, constant late nights and heart-pounding deadlines or dealing with relationship stress – a type of hair loss called telogen effluvium may be triggered. Hair always goes through three phases: growth, rest and shedding, and an extremely stressful event can cause this cycle to go haywire. When this happens, more strands of hair may prematurely enter the shedding phase, causing your precious mane to thin.

Telogen effluvium can even be brought about by physical stress like an accident or sickness. When this happens, be sure to give your body and mind ample time to recover. Hair will eventually grow back once the stressful situation is over.

3. Use gentler products

According to BioRoyale, an anti-hair loss beauty brand, the ‘hardness’ of water in Singapore varies across the island, depending on the amount of minerals like calcium or magnesium in the water. I did notice that I was dropping more hair than usual when I relocated to the east, and wondered if the hardness of the water had anything to do with it.

To combat this, I’ve been using the BioRoyale Groback Shampoo, GroBack Conditioner,  GroBack Serum Aftershower and GroBack Overnight Vitalizer for the last month or so. The range of products are made without harsh chemicals, and formulated with natural ingredients like aloe vera, calendula and green tea extracts, and rosemary and lavender oil. These are meant to help reduce hair loss and promote hair growth. The verdict? I’m dropping slightly less hair than before, but I’m hoping the results will be more significant in time.

4. Go easy on styling tools

Limit how frequently you use heat tools like curling irons or hair straighteners to style your hair. And when blow-drying your stresses after a shower, use the lowest heat setting where possible. Sure, it’ll take slightly longer to dry, but the process will also be less damaging and won’t weaken hair.

Remember not to comb or brush wet hair as well – Hair is weakest when it’s wet, and you risk your strands breaking or dropping if you tug on them.

5. Eat more protein

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, a lack of protein in your diet can cause your body to ration its use of protein. One way it does this is to shut down hair growth. Good sources of protein include eggs, fish, meat, beans, yogurt and tofu. Additionally, make sure you have enough iron in your diet.
