If you want to make your eyes pop but aren’t great with eyeshadow or just do not have the time (how do these Instagram stars find a spare 5 hours for smokey eyes?), throw on some sparkly eyeliner as an easy alternative. You shouldn’t be afraid to go with a deeper eyeshadow, even if you’ve got pale skin. High impact colours like this bright plum can make you look younger, especially if you keep it simple with just one or two shades on your lid. Just remember to keep your lips neutral so you aren’t too overdone.

The best thing about gold eyeshadow is that it looks great on your eyes, whether you use it all over the lid or are working it into a more detailed makeup look. All you need is a wash of gold and a little definition along the lash line to make your eyes look bigger. If you’ve got monolids, you might want to create some depth in a triangular shape along the outer corner of your eyes to make your lids look lifted.

You don’t have to go with this particular shade, but if you want to take a walk on the wild side, we are big fans of a bold lip. Classics like a deep vampy red are always sexy, but if you’re up to it then go ahead and experiment! You’ll just want to keep your eye makeup really simple, and be sure to use a lip liner beneath your lipstick so the colour stays within the lines and will last even longer. And since it’s Valentine’s…you’re also going to want to try out a kiss-proof lipstick. Pucker up honey!

Don’t underestimate the power of all-in-one makeup products, like the Nars Multiple, or lip products that can be used on the cheeks and eyes. The monochrome look was big last year, and we expect it’ll continue to stick around in ‘17 too. It’s not just convenient (who doesn’t want fewer products to lug around in your bag?), it’s also a broad enough trend that you can make it your own. You can use similar colours for some gradient and depth, especially on the lips and eyes. And hey, if pinks and corals aren’t your thing, try more sultry bronze or burgundy tones instead!
