Putting on an awards show while the whole world is still going through a pandemic might be a tad bit… frivolous, but with all the doom and gloom we face daily, isn’t it nice to have something fun to look forward to?
While we won’t be donning on our best party frocks or bold makeup looks for a big night out anytime soon (unless you plan to make the supermarket your red carpet, in which we say, go for it!), we can live vicariously through some of our favourite celebrities.
From traditional red carpet beauty looks to unconventional ones like bleached brows, here are some of the hair and makeup looks at the Golden Globes 2021 that caught our eye.
Never underestimate the power of a bold lip. The United States Vs. Billie Holiday star gave us ethereal vibes all over, from her messy bun, highlighted cheekbones and glossy berry lips.
No Emily in Paris style mishaps here! The Lancôme ambassador showed us that it *is* possible to wear multiple coloured eye shadows all at the same time without looking like a five-year-old child who just raided her mother’s beauty drawer. The teal, bronze and emerald shades were also picked to complement the colours of her Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello dress.
Looking like a cross between Twiggy and Pierrot (the sad, clwon-like figure common to French pantomime), The Crown actress Emma Corrin pulled off a sleek side part and ’60s inspired clumpy mascara that really added to her retro ensemble from Miu Miu.
If it ain’t broke, why fix it right? Amanda Seyfried channelled old school Hollywood glam with her Veronica Lake-esque curls, nude lip and some brown shimmer over her lids. Oh and copious amounts of mascara.
It’s not every day you see bleached brows and a buzz cut outside of a fashion editorial spread, let alone an event as glamorous as the Golden Globes. We love how the actress and singer chose to go with an edgy beauty look that certainly sets her apart from the crowd, choosing to let her sculptural Valentino Haute Couture dress take centre stage instead.
We guess Rosamund Pike takes the phrase “go big or go home” seriously. Taking a page out of the grunge era, Pike showed off a huge, tulle Molly Goddard dress paired with a pair of combat boots from Alexander McQueen. To prevent her beauty look from overpowering her dress, Pike kept her center-parted bob hairdo super sleek with a splash of matching berry-toned lipstick.
This year Sarah Paulson went the sleek route, choosing to slick her hair back for a look that was both severe and sophisticated. She finished the look with slightly smudgy brown lids and a wash of rosy colour on her eyes, lips and cheeks.
One of the few celebrities to turn up for the event IRL, the Crazy Rich Asians star went for a shimmery makeup look that made her face glow. Her hairstylist also took inspiration from the late ’60s/early ’70s vibe of her Gucci dress and gave her a side part with bouncy waves.
