Charlene found out that she had breast cancer at 35. She underwent mastectomy and chemotherapy, and it was during her battle against the illness that she decided to set up Breathe Essentials Co., a lifestyle brand that offers affordable essential oils and scented candles, so that people, too, could heal with scents, the same way she did when she was undergoing chemotherapy.

Benjamin lost his mother to breast cancer when he was 12. He recalled his mother as a positive person who normalised the illness and ensured he and his sister, Narelle, understood what she was going through. She continued to make him laugh with her cheery attitude even as she battled the illness.

For Belinda, the memory of her mother’s journey remains fresh in her mind, as she had been there during her mother’s diagnosis up till her final journey. She tearfully recounted what it was like being a caregiver for a breast cancer patient.
