Grown Alchemist: The new beauty brand in SG everyone is talking about

This new kid on the block promises powerful, toxin-free formulas to reverse the clock

by Pei Mei  /   November 2, 2020

For brothers Jeremy and Keston Mujis, who founded Australian clean skincare label Grown Alchemist, clean beauty is more than just a trend. They are of the opinion that using efficacious formulations free of potentially harmful and toxic ingredients will only result in better skin in the long run – a goal that everyone would want to achieve.

The brand is finally available in Singapore now – at Takashimaya – which is why we just had to catch up with Jeremy to find out more about Grown Alchemist.

Grown Alchemist: The new beauty brand in SG everyone is talking about
Why did you start Grown Alchemist? How has it been like working with your brother?
image

Since we have years of experience in brand development, we decided to foray into the natural and clean skincare market. After years of research and development, we were really impressed by how effective the natural active ingredients are in improving skin cell health. Thus, Grown Alchemist was born.

Keston and I are very different. We know each other’s strengths and mutually respect each other. One of the best things about starting a business with family is trust. Trust is also crucial in our work relationship.

What does "clean beauty" mean and why is it more than just a trend?
image

Covid-19 has given all of us the opportunity to slow down and to look at life and our surroundings with new perspectives. For example, the food we consume, how we exercise and how we interact with others. This also made many consumers more aware of their beauty routine and make positive changes to it. For those with high expectations for their health and cleanliness, this translates into seeking out “clean” beauty, so we believe that this demand will only grow with time.

“Clean” beauty refers to formulating with botanical ingredients and it is a form of sustainable production without the use of toxic or cancer-causing substances. As such, it has good biocompatibility, no animal testing and employs recyclable packaging. Our products are made with high-quality organic ingredients are certified to not contain toxic ingredients and do not undergo animal testing. This is our commitment and promise to the world and consumers.

What is the biggest misconception people have of clean beauty?
image

That natural and organic products are ineffective. Clinical research has shown that organic ingredients have higher levels of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and amino acids compared to non-organic ingredients. Consequently, they play an important role in repairing skin cells. Moreover, there are many regulations regarding the cultivation of organic ingredients, so it is unlikely to contain harmful or carcinogenic substances. Grown Alchemist’s products are also certified by the Australian Certified Organic (ACO).

What advice would you give to someone trying or switching to clean beauty?
image

Many people do not realise that chronic skin problems such as acne, eczema and inflammation are a result of the body’s natural response to accumulated toxins. The skin is often exposed to external stressors such as pollution, blue light and skin-damaging substances commonly found in cosmetics. Clean beauty is free of these toxic ingredients while it concurrently repairs the skin. Once the skin is able to function normally again, we use quality ingredients to bring about more improvements.

What would you recommend to first-time Grown Alchemist customers?
image

I would recommend Grown Alchemist’s three-step process of cleansing, detoxing and activating to protect and repair the skin. Among our star products is the Detox Serum. It is suitable for everyone and contains an antioxidant and peptide complex and can detoxify your skin within 14 days after using it twice daily. Regardless of your age, skin type and sex, we recommend using it to fight against free radicals caused by oxygen, carbon and nitrogen.
