Blithe Blue Zone Marine Intensive Mask Abalone, $46 for a box of 8 sheets
Containing minerals, proteins and amino acids derived from abalone extracts and moisturising properties, this sheet mask is designed to intensely hydrate and soften skin.
VERDICT: Although the mask is a little longer and wider than my face is, I like that the material is thin and translucent so it’s not that obvious that I have a mask on. It also hugs the contours of my face very well, as if it’s melting into the skin. I like the smell of this mask as it almost smells like a mild, fruity scent. Skin looks very radiant and feels super bouncy and smooth immediately after removing the mask, and surprisingly my skin felt less oily the next day.
You’ll have to apply an ampoule on your face before layering on a 2-piece rubber sheet mask to seal in the active ingredients and prevent the serum from dripping. Leave on for 30 minutes to allow ingredients to penetrate – it can be kept on much longer because the rubber doesn’t dry out like other sheet masks.
VERDICT: The ampoule has a unique jelly, beancurd-like texture that I found interesting. The rubber mask is a little fragile, especially if you have sharp or long nails, so make sure you handle it with care to avoid tears or breakage. Although it doesn’t cover the face completely (it leaves about half the forehead and a little of the cheek area exposed), it provides a soothing, cooling effect once applied and stays on the face very firmly.
For Beloved Girl Extreme Moisture Mineral Cloud-Silk Mask, $16 for 3 pieces
As the younger (and more affordable) sister brand to For Beloved One, For Beloved Girl has launched a new mineral mask series that’s meant for younger girls and women with fewer skin concerns. Each of the masks are very specifically targeted to treat different skin issues with different minerals. These sheet masks are also smaller in size, which means they will fit smaller Asian face features well without lots of excess material or unnecessary folds.
VERDICT: The cloud-silk material of the mask is thin, yet doesn’t tear easily, so it adheres to every contour of my skin perfectly. I tried the brightening, hydrating and oil-control ranges, and they all kept my skin soft and hydrated for at least 24 hours after use.
This is your cheap drugstore option if you want a fuss-free and effective solution (especially if you’re hoarding the masks to bring along for a long holiday). Antioxidants and hyaluronic acid help to protect and moisturise dehydrated skin while smoothening fine lines.
VERDICT: The blue protective sheet makes this mask seem a little small at first, and isn’t very easy to peel off, but once removed, the mask fit my face very snugly so I could partake in my usual activities without worrying it would slip off. Immediately after removing, skin looked very even and radiant.
Hada Labo Lifting+Firming Mask, $16.90 for a box of 4 sheets
Not only does this range help to boost skin’s natural production of elastin and collagen, it also contains four types of hyaluronic acid to ensure that even the deepest layers of your skin are sufficiently hydrated.
VERDICT: The mask is very straightforward and easy to use, and fits my face well. Skin feels fresh and a little tighter after removing.
Skin Inc. Multi-Masking Facial In A Flash Sheet Mask Series, $48 for a box of 3 sheets
This comprises three different types of sheet masks that are separately packaged for the top and bottom halves of your face. The masks are made of a unique hydrogel infused with various luxurious metals like gold and platinum for a number of skincare benefits: to detox, brighten or lift.
VERDICT: We love how you can mix and match the masks as desired, depending on which area of your face needs a specific solution. The sheet masks fit the face really well and cling to your skin so you don’t need to worry about them falling off.
Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Creamy Mask, $148 for a box of 5 sheets
This cream-type sheet mask utilises ginseng root extract to strengthen the skin and target signs of ageing. It works to plump, firm and hydrate dry, tired and sagging skin.
VERDICT: The plastic-like outer layer of this mask keeps its surface dry, so those who wear spectacles can put on their glasses without worrying about them slipping off. Since the formula is a cream, there is no drippy mess either. It carries a super soothing Ginseng scent and leaves skin feeling extremely calm and balanced after.
Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Mask, $72 for 5 sheets
Basically, this is a sheet mask that works the same way as the First Care Activating Serum EX – except way more intensely. It holds one-third of a bottle of the serum (imagine that!) in just one mask, intended to instantly soothe and hydrate dry skin. But it’s suitable for all skin types, especially if you feel that your skin is lacking hydration or nourishment on a particular day. It’s even made with 100% natural cotton fuzz and less pulp to reduce irritation to sensitive skin. Use it once or twice a week after cleansing.
VERDICT: This is by far one of my favourite masks to date. It fits super snugly onto my face, smells amazing (if you like its mild herbal scent) and helps the serum absorb very quickly. I have very dry skin that flakes if not moisturised properly, but just 10 minutes of this mask (and a simple moisturiser after) as part of my night-time skincare routine leaves my skin feeling super smooth and looking healthily radiant all the way till the next morning.
