I’ll let you in on a personal pampering ritual: Smearing on this revitalising mask and letting it work its magic while I catch up on a rerun of Descendants of the Sun happens to be one of my favourite me-time treats.
My obsession du jour boasts gently exfoliating walnut grain beads to purify pores without aggravating acne, plus complexion-correcting clay and an algae extract to reduce redness and amp up hydration. Simply slather on a generous glob of the good stuff, kick back your kitten heels for five minutes or so, then splash off for wobbly tofu skin.
Beauty bonus: The incredibly comforting concoction leaves a super supple finish, so much so that I’ve found myself skipping my moisturiser on nights when I just can’t be arsed to follow through with my eight-step regime. Besides, if it’s good enough for Bobbi Brown beauty Claudia Kim, it’s good enough for me!
I’m giving this tinted treatment the green thumbs up. Why? Well, for starters, while there are a plethora of pore-tightening poultices on the beauty aisles, I’m particularly fond of those containing calming clay, which is an incredibly absorbent ingredient that’s great for getting under the skin and clearing out unwanted riff-raff clogging up your pores.
This Origins offering has said clay in spades, plus a complexion-correcting cocktail of antioxidant actives courtesy of spirulina, spinach and green tea – all of which work in tandem to give this emerald elixir its eye-catching chartreuse colour.
Even better, this mask does double duty as a deep cleanser of sorts. First, slather it onto damp skin and enjoy the pleasantly prickly sensation as the self-activated bubbles crackle and pop, then massage the foam into your face and rinse off to reveal what the brand promises will be a noticeably brighter visage.
As you can imagine, slapping this on results in a really refreshing tingle that should soothe sensitive skin – especially useful if, like me, you suffer from heat-induced blotchiness. A must-buy for the dog days of summer ahead, if you ask me.
Kiehl’s, FTW! I’m obsessed with this awesome beauty of a brightener from the reliably rad all-American brand.
Ingredients-wise, this brightening booster is stuffed with radiance-amplifying turmeric and a heaping helpful of antioxidant actives courtesy of cranberry extract, both of which are said to work in tandem to disguise the discolouration of fatigued skin.
To use, simply slather on this mask for about five minutes, splash off with warm water and with some luck, your skin should go from lethargic and lacklustre to divine and dewy virtually instantly. Industry insider tip-off: This moisturising marvel sits right at the top of many a beauty editor’s #DieDieMustTry list, so check it out at counters, stat.
OMG, I’m gaga for this gorgeous Glamglow skin saviour. This detoxifying mask, which comes with gratifyingly grainy pumice powders and clarifying clays, really does the job at flushing out the day’s dirt and debris.
All you need to do is to leave it on for five minutes or so (make it 10 if you’re “kiasu” and want your money’s worth), then wash off with warm water. Ta-dah! With any luck, your skin should be feeling supremely soft, pleasingly plump and pore-free. Even better, this mask boasts sparkly specks that stay on the skin post-rinse for an instant shot of incandescence. Bottomline: I swear by this for fending off fatigue, puffiness and pores; odds are it’ll work wonders for your skin as well!
How’s this for an Aesthetic Horror Story: I know of office ladies who dab toothpaste onto their zits (right at their desk to boot!) and call it a day. Worst beauty hack ever! Never apply toothpaste on a spot, which is akin to pouring stinging oil on a fire: The toothpaste only serves to ramp up redness and inflammation.
What to use in lieu of toothpaste? Try Kate Somerville’s excellent Eradikate Mask Foam-activated Acne Treatment, a cool self-activating treatment that works itself into a fine froth on dry skin – no elbow grease required on your part. The fun frothing action sops up grime and grease while driving antibacterial colloidal sulfur and a brew of botanical and honey extracts deep into your pores. And yes, this goes both ways: It’s perfectly kosher to use it as a cleanser as well.
Right, then. With any luck, your face should boast a smooth-as-silk finish once you’re done with any one of these face masks. Here’s hoping your time spent “poring” over this piece will result in perfectly plump and pore-free skin on your part!
