9 beauty products from 2018 that are must-haves in 2019, according to our beauty team
Best of 2018

Every year, a plethora of amazing new beauty products are launched (to the great delight of beauty enthusiasts like ourselves), and 2018 was no exception.

With new products dropping on a weekly basis, and more eyeshadow palettes than we will ever have eyelid space, we decided to put together this list of our absolute beauty favourites from classic brands  like Estee Lauder, Sisley and Lancome.

These are products that made it to our beauty must-have list and will probably never leave.

Lierac Hydragenist Plumping Hydra-Nourishing Lip Balm, $28
image

“With this plumping lip balm, you won’t really see a big difference in the size of your lips, but they will feel softer and smoother right away. It’s great for prepping and priming your lips for lipstick because it smoothes any roughness and makes lip colour go on more easily. The crayon tip also makes it really easy to get to the hard to reach areas like the corners of the mouth.”

Lancome L’Absolu Rouge Drama Matte, $48
image

“This brand’s original L’Absolu Rouge (a creamy, hydrating formula) was one of the first lipsticks I used up completely, until it was down to a tiny nub. There was just something about the comfortable wear and rich colour that made it quite addictive. And the amazing thing with this new ultra matte finish is that the same comfortable wear remains, all thanks to jojoba oil and proxylane (a moisturising ingredient) that give lips a soft, supple sensation. What’s more, the colours really pop and the matte finish is so chic but never looks or feels dry.”

Rouge Dior Ultra Rouge Lipstick, $50
image

“What I love about about this lipstick is how incredibly pigmented and long-lasting it is. One swipe gets you the perfect soft-matte opacity – no pulling and/or tugging. I’ve put it through buffets and greasy meals and the lipstick survived through them all, from nudes to darks. All the three shades I’ve tried lived up to this long-wearing promise.”

Shiseido Synchro Skin Tinted Gel Cream, $56
image

“The mousse-like texture of this foundation feels so featherlight on the skin once blended out, you might actually forget that you have anything on your face. It offers light-medium coverage that’s able to cover faint acne scars easily. Best of all, its skincare-inspired formula is infused with Japanese mineral water which really helps to keep the skin hydrated, even after layering on a setting powder.” – Chelsea Tang, Beauty Writer

Dior Backstage Eye Palette (Warm 001), $83
image

“I’m not very adventurous or experimental when it comes to eyeshadows so I tend to stick to neutrals (you can probably imagine how many nude eyeshadow palettes I own!). This palette caught my eye because it has browns and beiges in both matte and shimmery finishes that are easy to mix with what I already own to diversify my eye looks. These powders are incredibly smooth and easy to apply and blend. You don’t even need a brush with this. I just use my fingertip and still get good colour payoff. They are also not too pigmented, which is great for  gradually building up intensity and having greater control.”

Estee Lauder Beautiful Belle EDP, $92 for 30ml
image

“I first smelled Estee Lauder Beautiful when I was a child of 7 or 8 years old, poking around my mother’s dresser. It was a heady, floral blend that encompassed all that was feminine and womanly. This new version of the classic scent is just as intoxicating with lush florals, but with a more modern twist thanks to juicy lychee on the top for a fresher opening, and blush suede and amberox accord in the base to give it warmth and added texture. It is definitely a modern day version of a strong, romantic, feminine scent.”

Dior Capture Youth Customised regimen, $152 for the Capture Youth Age-delay Advanced Creme and $152 for each of the five serums
image

“Luxury skincare that is personalised for your skin’s specific needs, this concept was all about self-care at its finest. Capture Youth’s range of 6 targeted serums were launched to offer very specific benefits like mattifying, plumping, glow and soothing. You just pick what you want for your skin just before you apply your Dior skincare cream, squeeze a drop of the serum into said cream and smooth it over your skin and you’re all set. It also doesn’t hurt that the range looked so good on any dresser or skincare shelf.”

La mer The Luminous Lifting Cushion Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20, $160
image

“This cushion foundie is pricey but totally worth it because it feels like second skin and makes my complexion look perfect with just one light layer. The formula is crazy lightweight and airy, yet definitely full coverage. It blends easily over my skin without clinging on to dry patches or flakes. I reach for this cushion on a daily basis and can attest to its long-wear, non-creasing claims.”

Sisley Hydra-Global Serum, $320
image

“If you have perpetually parched skin like me (where foundation can actually flake off my face), you absolutely need this hydrating serum in your routine. When it is dispensed from the pump bottle, it seems thick and gel-like but it glides on and absorbs quickly while soothing away any dry patches. It also immediately takes away any uncomfortably taut sensation when my skin is really parched, and the hydration and suppleness lasts all day. I didn’t realise how good this moisturising serum was until I finished the bottle and stopped using it cold turkey. I could feel my skin pining for it.”

– Chelsea Tang, Beauty Writer
