My hair has been through a lot. I’ve permed it, cut it, hot tooled it and am still bleaching my roots every three months. Also prone to the betrayal of hair styling tools over the years, my hair and I haven’t always been on great terms.
After spending some time with the new Dyson Corrale straightener ($699) — it just launched in Singapore — it gave me an easy, polished hairstyle that didn’t take long to produce, but it came with its challenges.
The promise:
A cord-free hair straightener that protects hair strands from excessive heat damage while maintaining its beauty and shine. It is the only hair straightener with flexing plate technology that gathers hairs and distributes the heat evenly throughout. It can be used to straighten and curl hair.
My first impressions:
It’s a very expensive hair straightener. There’s no avoiding that $699 price tag. At 0.56kg, it’s heavier than my other straighteners which poses a potential issue if I’m travelling.
It was fully charged in about an hour and lasted around 20 minutes when cord-free. It proved to be a challenge as it took more than a few tries to get a stable motion. I’m used to attempting a super straight hair look in under 10 minutes. My first attempt at the Dyson Corrale took me more than half an hour.
