Big and bold: Best beauty trends from Milan Fashion Week S/S '20
Milan likes it LOUD
Compared to shows in the other three fashion capitals, Milan Fashion Week is decidedly maximalist.
With a few notable exceptions, everything is loud – the clothes, the makeup, the hair – and we love them for it. This year’s MFW is no different, as fashion houses sent models down runways with beauty looks inspired by decades past.
A couple of these looks overlap with the trends shown in Paris and London, and that’s how you know they’re certified trends. Click through the gallery to see some of our favourite trends.
With nostalgia for the ’90s still going strong, are we really surprised to see frosted blue eyeshadow making an appearance on the runways?
Pair this eye look with plenty of gloss on your lips to channel your inner 90s cheerleader like the models at Tiziano Guardini, or take a leaf from Max Mara’s book and spice things up a little by adding a dark, matte lip to the mix.
Instead of neon blocks of colour, models at Arthur Arbesser and Prada sported swipes of black and white on their lids. You can recreate this at home with a trusty gel eyeliner, eye primer, and a steady hand.
Yes, we know that bold brows are pretty much de rigeur these days. However, the brows spotted at runways like Prada, Alberta Feretti and Missoni were bold, but natural – almost untrimmed. And if this trend means that we can go longer in between brow appointments, we’re all for it.
Here, it’s worn matte, with sharp and defined edges to create a strong impression. It’s definitely not a look for the weak of heart. But to ease your way into the trend, you can start with a dark berry or brown lip. A glossy top coat will also help soften the look.
