Everything's coming up roses
image

There’s something feminine, elegant and modern about rose gold, and if last year was any indication, the colour is immensely popular. We saw rose gold pop up on just about everything in 2016, from jewellery to home decor. Oh, and beauty too.

Where makeup is concerned, the colour is not just romantic and feminine, but also flattering on almost everyone. What makes the colour so universally appealing is that it toes the line between cool and warm tones. This means any skin tone can pull it off…if you choose the right shade on the spectrum.

The trick to choosing your perfect rose gold, is knowing your undertone and choosing a colour that is either more rosy or more golden. If you have pink or cooler undertones, opting for more pink in your rose gold will suit you best. Conversely, warmer skin tones can opt for more golden shades of rose gold.

Urban Decay Naked 3, $83
image

We begin with a classic – one of Urban Decay’s best-selling palettes. The Naked 3 was undeniably trend-setting at the time it launched (about three years ago), full of rose-toned neutrals. While it’s better-suited to skin with neutral or cooler undertones, there are enough neutrals in the palette to make it work even if you’re on the warmer side. And as all Urban Decay palettes and shadows, these are high pigmented and blend like a dream.

Cover FX Enhance Click in Rose Gold, $28
image

We love these little click sticks for touch-ups on the go. They’re a handbag friendly size (about the size of your thumb) and give your skin that sun-kissed radiance in a number of colours. It’s essentially a cream highlight that’s easy to blend, so you choose how intense you want your glow to be. You might also have heard of the Custom Enhancer Drops that look like liquid metal, and can be mixed in with foundations, moisturisers, or just used directly on the face for some intense shine. Mid-March, Cover FX is releasing those drops in Rose Gold in Sephora stores, so mark your calendars ladies and get in line.

Becca Luminous Blush in Rose Spritz from the Champagne Collection Face Palette, $80
image

This palette was a collab between Becca and beauty Youtuber Jaclyn Hill. Whilst only one of the shades in this palette is a rose gold, the palette as a whole is absolutely gorgeous. You get two stunning highlighters (champagne pop and prosecco pop), two mineral blushes and one luminous blush (Rose Spritz). The palette might seem a little pricey at first, but you really are getting five quality cheek products, which retail for an average of 50 dollars individually.

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Rose Gold Retro or Kitten Karma, $24 each
image

Spring 2017 sees Stila’s first foray into liquid eyeshadows and like Urban Decay, they’re all about the glitter. These eyeshadows are stunning, with the glitters making more impact as eyelid “toppers”, applied in the middle of the lid over an existing eye makeup look for more sparkle and dimension. The shade Rose Gold is more rose with silver for cooler undertones, and Kitten Karma is a lighter and more gold shade (a champagne with copper tones) that is beautiful on warmer skin tones. Coming soon to Sephora.

Colourpop Creme Gel Pencil in Get Paid, US$5
image

Colourpop makes some of the most affordable quality eyeliners out there. They stay put all day, are amazing on the waterline and won’t budge. We can concur with such a statement, having tried a fair few on our own dime, and you really can’t beat the brand when it comes to colour range at a low price. Shipping is a little pricey, but if you round up some friends and hit the US$50 minimum spend, international shipping is free!

You should also definitely check out the Super Shock Eyeshadows that come in SO many neutrals. The shadows are buttery soft and the absolute best if you want a single eyeshadow colour you can just wear all over your eyelids. We love popular shade Wattles which is a satin pinky beige.

Urban Decay Liquid Moondust Cream Eyeshadow in Recharged, $38
image

Urban Decay launched their first liquid eyeshadows last year, heading straight for glittery goodness. The Liquid Moondust Cream Eyeshadows are based on the brand’s cult-favourite Moondust eyeshadows (they also launched a Moondust eyeshadow palette last year), containing microfine bits of iridescent sparkle and 3D metallics that are meant to give the eyeshadows a diamond-like effect. There are only a few shades at the moment, but Recharged is a beautiful semi-sheer pinky-gold glitter that works best when worn over a more opaque base colour.

Nyx Cosmic Metals Lip Cream in Speed of Light, $20
image

Metallic liquid lipsticks are pretty to look at but understandably harder to pull off, especially if you have an office job, but they’re fun for a night out or even the weekend if you’re bold enough. These are definitely on the more pricey end of the spectrum for Nyx (the lip butters and soft matte lip creams are priced between 11 and 14 dollars) as they’re a lot harder to formulate, not to mention much larger tubes. Speed of Light is a gorgeous light rose gold shade, but it might be tough to pull off if you have medium or deep skin tones, unless you run more cool-toned.

NARS The Multiple in G Spot, $60
image

The Multiple is really the ideal product to have for its versatility, especially if you want to just get one item and are down with monochromatic looks. The stick is like a really large flat lipstick in a tube, that can be used on the lips, cheeks, and eyes, though we recommend using a lip brush or your fingers when applying it to your lips so you keep within the lines. The shade G Spot is a beautiful rose gold, though it definitely runs more pink than gold. The brand has just opened its first flagship store in Ngee Ann City (#B1-53), so we highly recommend checking out the new space as well as the gorgeous product ranges.

Zoeva Rose Golden Vol. 2 Luxury Set, $130
image

If you have enough makeup but need more tools, a set of rose gold makeup brushes might be more your style instead. We love Zoeva for its quality brushes at a much more affordable price, and this set of eight will get you all the basics needed for a flawless face. The kit includes a flat top foundation brush, two cheek brushes (we love the face paint one for a precise contour), three eyeshadow brushes (to blend, pack on colour and smudge), an eyeliner brush and a brow liner brush. Oh and they all come in a beautiful rose gold carrying case.
